I Want to Keep Windows 7 Forever

That's right, FOREVER.
I started out on Windows 95 and have had every Windows OS up to Windows 7.
Windows 7 turned out to be the Promised Land.

The land of Milk and Honey. It delivered on it's promises.
No more frustration or crashes. Everything worked.
And now, they want to take it all away. NO!

I have 3 machines with Windows 7.
Every one is flawless.

All my old games and programs run like a top.
Word is FREE! No yearly extortion payment.

January 2020 looms on the horizon.
What shall I do.

window 7 will still run but will not get support for it. my opinion win 10 is better after you get used to it. can make it act and look like win 7 with classic shell.

Why move to Windows 10 just to jerry rig it to run like Windows 7?

My biggest beef with Windows 10 is the subscription based component.
I don't want to keep paying for programs every year.

Impossibility. Eventually you'll need new hardware and with that you'll need the drivers for that OS. Unless you get hacked Win 7 drivers. I'm in the same boat. I plan on keeping 7 for a very long time. But when I do use 10 I plan on using Pfsense to block a good majority of Microsoft's ASNs and what emanates from MY computer and block that too if it's not suppose to be there. I'll also customize the Win 10 ISO and strip it from all the crap.

And the keylogger and the telemetry. Doesn't matter if it can be turnned "off." That's not the point. Point is why is it there in the first place? I call BS.

what I am saying is having the start menu be like win 7 and other stuff but you can have a read Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

I do not know what programs your talking about as I do not pay for any. but I have office 2007 and works just fine.

Did you notice that their cheapest router is $700?

I would check other sources, like software reviews, to see if it is indeed "The World's Most Trusted." And you'll need other security software and care in going to sleazy sites.

There is a thread that goes into all the options of staying or leaving, and in which many members have participated. It's a virtual library of options.
What should we do after January 2020

Not true. On a PC install linux and VirtualBox. Clone your current Win7 system into a virtual hard disk and move it to VirtualBox on that system.

Voila you now have an environment where you can run the same Win7 image on new hardware (that runs a base linux OS) basically forever. Your 'virtualized' Win7 hardware can live basically forever in a VirtualBox X86 environment.

You can't game with that and Virtual Box's USB emulation is horrible.

You don't need their appliance. You can run it on a nettop of your choice. I ran it in VMware for testing.

You go here, grab the Microsoft ASNs and monitor what emulates from the computer with this.

For a small yearly fee you can keep the security hole plugged by this software:

Micropatches - 0patch

I have no skinny in recommending this software it is just the only one that does what they claim.

Windows 10 is horrible period, I'm older and do not need the aggravation of all the bloat and also as well as the attempt to make it look like Windows 7.

Bought a brand new Aliwneare Desktop from Dell that came installed windows 10 all I can say is its garbage ( nice pg software sucks to put it mildly), I had to the send the PC back then came across a article on the Dell site saying if you had Win7 Professional Disc if could be 10 could be rolled back.

So called Dell sales and they put me in touch with their tech support and they told me it could make it so it would look like Win7 or roll it back to 7 w/ my disc, so went ahead head and ordered a new XPS 8700 Desktop with Win 10 pro.

Pc was delivered and then I called Tech to have them set it up , at that point now I'm told that they could not do that as they no longer offer Win 7 support but could configure it to look sort of like Win 7.

Tried that and still too much garbage....

So that pc went back, next I bought a brand new 2015 XPS 8700 from a 3rd party seller on Amazon, that came with the Win 8 disc but had Win 7 Pro already installed.

So now at least I have a new pc and will run Win 7 as long as possible.

I have:
Zone Alarm Extreme Security
Malwarebytes Premium

I have installed NEVER 10 so to stop all the forced Win 10 junk and also turned off the Win7 updates.

Have cloned the HD to another new one for emergency back up also I use Acronis True Image to create OD backups.

As far as Office Professional Plus (2016) Paid version
Out of that whole suite I only use Word occasional'y

For safety concerns should I try and remove or disable the rest of the programs?

Turn off Win Defender? Never use it but its there?

Go my Dell and DL that drivers I need from there and back them up or go the 3rd party route.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I also have a Dell Insprion Laptop which I'm doing basically same thing to ...

You don't need Office unless it's required for work. It's just a space hog and M$ will keep plaguing you with security updates. Download OpenOffice or LibreOffice. Mine takes up only 309 MB. Writer is the equivalent of Word.

I use Classic Shell to make my Win7 look like XP.

Setting up 3rd W7 machine. Never10 looks great. Gibson has been a reliable security iconoclast for many years.

I also don't like the idea of switching to Windows 10. However, I am coming to realize life goes on. I just got myself a new 4K monitor and Windows 7 has a lot of trouble coping with it. I have another thread running on this, but apparently any Displayport monitor suffers from a known issue - if you turn it off or put to sleep or the computer goes into sleep, then all your windows are going to get resized to some ancient small resolution (640x480) and get bunched to the upper left corner. There are discussions of that all over the internet, all support forums, etc. The issue apparently can't be solved. However, Windows 10 has no such issue - I have just installed a fresh copy of whatever the latest build is on a separate drive - and it runs faster than 7 (same PC, same SSD, just all other drives and ethernet disconnected) and there is no problem with the 4K monitor. So while it's annoying as hell - mostly the fact that Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have decided that they know better than me how to set up my computer - eventually I'll have to switch to it or otherwise install Linux.

Linux however is not quite the same as Windows - lots of programs either don't exist for Linux or have only clones that are not that good. Office is obviously the thing that comes to mind - all those "free" Linux alternatives are not good enough. If they are, then why not use emacs (which I do for almost all my work)?

It only takes about an hour, and several utilities, to beat Win-10 into submission, and make it look and act a lot like Win-7.

I always start off by killing "WUDO" and "Cortana"....two huge security holes.

The new "OpenShellSetup_4_4_142.exe" is a good second step. (makes Win-10 look like Win-7)

Since most of Win-10 failures happen after an update, running the "stopupdates10Setup.exe" program can't hurt. Most home PC users couldn't care less about updates, so just shutting them off eliminates a lot of future hate and discontent.

I've had pretty good luck with Win-10, that's mostly due to the proper setup.
I can say the same thing about Win-89, Millenium, XP, Vista and Win-7. Not to exclude, Win-8.1.

Happy Holidays Mates!
