Hi guys

Task Host Window always running Windows 7 shutdown

I've searched for this problem which is talked about many times no good fix shows.

You can shut down 70% of the time no problem the other 30% shows the message Task Host is running are you sure you want to shut down. To me that is a stupid question I shut down the laptop because I've finished with it for the day. If its taskhost.exe hogging resources Task Manger shows 0% the normal CPU usage is low 20%.

I Goggled this problem and M$ says:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...-shut-down-restart-or-log-off-a-computer-that

Hotfix there is no link as support is ended for Windows 7 only.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/search?query=Hotfix Windows 7

The other annoying problem is I use IE11 always have as I like the layout. I do have Firefox as a backup.

I can be on a normal web page which shows as normal, then popup says disable scripts. I've looked in IE options and scripts aren't enabled as I disabled them along time ago.

Another time your showing a web page the message say close browser not responding went it shows the page correctly. I close the browser and the page shows correctly.

M$ have made IE since they have made OS many years ago. If they made the system then they should support the system.

Sending an error report is another stupid system as nothing comes back.

I know there are loads of free web browsers on the market probably that's why M$ can't be bothered to fix the problem they have caused.

Any one else have solutions to both of these problems will be much appreciated.

Hi Keith,

please run the 2 standard repair tools,
sfc / scannow (from Admin command prompt) & Kb947821.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=3132
hopefully should address the task manager problem

As for IE11 - time to leave it, use your other browser, its no longer supported on W7.

I use a couple of Firefox offshoots Waterfox and Palemoon.

Thanks for the input Roy.

I've run sfc / scannow and looked at the Event Log nothing unusual shows.

I did a system restore last night back 2 days because of the problem I can't access my other computer to copy files over. Which is in an old thread.

I have all the latest Windows Updates installed the last one was 11/03/20.

Windows 10 uses IE11 so why isn't it supported on Windows 7.

As I've said I have Firefox as a backup browser which is crap you can't do the same things as you can with IE11. There is no favorites/bookmarks listed in Program files or ProgramData.

I use YouTube a lot as I play PC games that says update your browser as we are discontinuing soon.

I have another problem with accessing only one forum I use it shows RC4-problem I have to use Firefox.

RC4 cipher is no longer supported in Internet Explorer 11 or Microsoft Edge

I know your not supposed to post other forums on here but

I just need to know if anyone with IE11 can show this forum.

Hi Kieth,

easy ones first

IE11 - no updates are provided within 7 - 10 yes so its updated
Its also why your getting the youtube warning,
for arguements sake, version IE11.W7 = unsupported to be discontinued, show update browser message
MSE and the MSRT security updates are still being released, for <2yrs.

Network sharing not my area but is your wifi hub JUST using 5G settings to connect

RC4
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...upported-in-internet-explorer-11-or-microsoft
Once again time to ditch IE11, most sites will start to issue unsupported browser security risk warnings

For what it's worth, I'm running Vista on this system using IE 10 and I'm responding here. I have no problem with IE 11 on my Win 7 system.

Ok just for a check on the other problem RC4 you can use the link I've shown or just click on the main link with Win 7.

Ross-Tech Forums

Windows 7 comes with IE9 as standard I've updated to IE10 and IE11. I don't think its worth going back 2 versions to sort this RC4 problem.

I can't open it in either IE 10 or IE11. It just says the page can't be displayed. I did see a message that "this page has not set a title." I can access the ross-tech web page in both IE versions but the forum page won't open. I can open it in Firefox and Opera.

I wouldn't recommend going back to IE 10. I was just mentioning that it will open this forum website (If I don't have SSL 2.0 enabled). It can't access certain web sites or some features at some websites. That's why I use Firefox as the primary browser on this system.

Also, you said-

"I have all the latest Windows Updates installed the last one was 11/03/20." Obviously that date is in error. The last updates were on January 14, 2020, If I remember correctly.

In regards to the task host running, is it actually shown by that name in the task manager Processes. If so, you might want to scan your system with malwarebytes.
