I would like to know how to maximally optimize my Samsung 840 Series SSD in Win 7?

Define "optimize."

For one, make sure Windows doesn't defrag it. I turn off the defrag scheduler. You do this by going to the properties of the drive by right clicking it under the My Computer icon or hit My Computer from the Start orb. I'm not sure if Windows will defrag a SSD in 7 or not if it detects an SSD. But to be sure I just turn it off anyway.

You'd want to make sure it's aligned. To check this run the program AS SSD and it will look like mine here with everything OK. If it isn't allied read here Note the AHCI. That too should be on in BIOS, but doing it after the fact is a process. A registry process that is.

Also, you'll want to use the Samsung Magician software to create an over provision space. To get the software, scroll all the way to the bottom of utter useless crap for the download. Samsung Magician Software | Samsung V-NAND SSD | Samsung Semiconductor Global Website

What ever web master they hired to code that page must have been told to code it so the people that are really, really blind can see it.

Thank you for replying.

How do I do the ''optimize'' option like in Win 10?

Come again?

I asked you to define "optimize" but you didn't. What I gave you here will work in 10. The defrag scheduler probably doesn't have to be messed with in 10 since the OS is smart enough to know whether you're using an SSD or a platter. However! The latest update for 10 messed with that crap and Windows was defragging SSDs! Not too good on the write cycles.

If you have a 10 question they need to go here: Windows 10 Help Forums To be blunt, I don't mess with with 10 all that much and I think it's in large part junk. But I'm testing it in VMware and eventually I'll end up having to use it.

By ''optimizing'', I mean on the Win 10 defragmentation utillity which has an ''optimize'' option for SSDs.

So please tell me how do I do that ''optimization'' in Win 7?

In Windows 10, optimize just forces the Trim command to invoke. In Windows 7 there's no such thing since SSDs weren't the mainstay when 7 came out as they are now. In order to insure the Trim command gets invoked in Windows 7 you'll want to leave the computer sit ideal while not doing anything. It will be at this time Windows will Trim the SSD automatically. I'm sure this may be the reason why one would see the HDD light activity while the computer is ideal. But I'm not sure. That could be another process as well.

Read here and make sure Trim is on in Windows 7. How to Check if TRIM Is Enabled for Your SSD (and Enable It if It Isn’t)
