Solved Edge Browser Opening at System Startup!

I am running WIndows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have used the Microsoft Edge browser for years with no problems. Now, suddenly and for no apparent reason, Edge is launching automatically on system startup. I do NOT want Edge to open on system start. How do I fix this? Does anyone have a clue?

That so-called 'solution' is for Windows 10. As stated in the original post I am running Windows 7 Pro. None of the files that he references are valid. They do not exist in Windows 7, ergo the 'solution' does not work! Any other ideas???

Maybe there's a simple one. Run-

msconfig

In the Startup tab, is Edge there and is it checkmarked? If so, uncheck it and click on Apply. Reboot.

Thank you for the suggestion. Edge is not listed in the Startup tab of msconfig...

I see that updater in my Task Scheduler but it doesn't let me change anything.

It might be easiest to run msconfig and uncheck the MicrosoftEdgeUpdater entries under Services. If you do that, I think you will need to update Edge manually.

OMG! I disabled 2 entries in the Task Scheduler referring to Edge and that seems to have done the trick! I just rebooted and--no Edge opening at startup!

I'm glad it worked. Thanks to cry1111. You'll just need to update Edge from within it. What's strange is that I have those services enabled and don't have Edge launch on start up. However, Edge isn't my default browser. I haven't learned how to customize it's appearance similar to Firefox or IE.

Very strange. Edge isn't my default browser either--the Brave browser is, and I haven't uses IE in years.

In any case, thanks again for your assistance. I was at the point of un-installing Edge....
