This question is refering to dell computers that have drivers and everything for windows 7.
Is it still possible to do a windows 7 fresh install these days? I know it's not supported and has security risks, but since there have been no updates on windows 7 I have had zero problems for years with my current install.
When I try to do a fresh install on a recent dell build, with a dell windows 7 pro USB stick, I get all sorts of issues.
Problems with certificates, cause internet issues, windows update won't work or when it does work it breaks the system. Permission problems on the hard drive, and folders. cases with missing files. IDK I have installed windows a hundred times without hardly any issues until the last year or two. If I download the dell system restore USB bootable install, for windows 7 will it still have all these problems?
i am considering just cloning my current drive and using that since one of the two installs i am trying to do is on the exact same system i am currently running.

Nobody installs clean original Windows 7 these days, because you lose days or more just to update it to the most current version.
Use already pre-updated version, like that created with my script. It works flawlessly, even in 2023.
Just do clean install (remove all partitions and recreate them) and you will have no issues.

there are several standalone windows updated instalers that are needed to do a fresh install from an old disk. after that i am not having any problems. ill put a list together or somone can point me to a thread that has them.

alohaman:

You have not described your Dell or the Windows 7 install media that you are using.

Following the advice in post #2 is probably the easiest way to install Windows 7 and have it up to date to January 2023.

If you have trouble understanding or following wkeller's instructions, these are the instructions that I created and use.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download and save Integrate7_v4_01_USB3_AHCI_NVMe.7z
Google Drive - Virus scan warning

Unzip the Integrate7_v4_01_USB3_AHCI_NVMe.7z file, which will create an Integrate7 folder.
(Note: extraction password is: Integrate2020)

Open the Integrate7 folder to expose its contents.

Open the DVD folder.

Copy and paste the contents of a Windows 7 SP1 64-bit disc/flash drive or extract the contents of a Windows 7 SP1 64-bit ISO file inside the DVD folder.

Deploy the Integrate7.cmd command script.

Follow the instructions very carefully as they appear.

Warning! Do NOT touch the keyboard and mouse for any reason during the integration process, unless you are instructed to type in and enter something.

When the integration process is finished, a Windows7_x64_en-US.iso file will have been created and you will be instructed to press any key to exit the script.

Use the ISO file to create a bootable install disc/flash drive for Windows 7 SP1 64-bit which will be up to date to January 10, 2023.
