Hi, I am having a problem with WLM 2009 on Windows 7....mainly major lag. WLM works, but the second I type something, maximize a window, minimize a window, open the main Contact List Window....change a display picture.....change a background.....pretty much any time I try to do ANYTHING, it lag-freezes for about 6-7 seconds.

Has been doing this since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit about a week ago; I have the
14.0.8089.726 build of WLM and I am running MSN Plus as well. I should also mention I am running WLM as Administrator and under Vista SP2 compatibility mode to enable the System Tray Icon, as this doesn't work in regular mode......ideas....?

It's INCREDIBLY irritating...

There's another person with my same problem...KimiNCS...I assume they'll be posting here shortly as
we've been following each other around to find a solution and this is the second forum we've both been directed too, starting with the Windows Live Help site, sent to the Microsoft Discussion Group for Windows Live Messenger, and then finally to here...:)

Hey, I also experienced such problem since I first installed my Windows 7 RTM 32bit. I reinstalled another original copy of Windows 7 Professional 64bit from MSDN. and the same problem occurred.
Can anyone help?

Live Messenger Lag

Yep, same problem here, I just installed Windows 7 32 bit and Live Messenger lags when I try to do anything like the first poster mentioned...it's very annoying!

I have the same issue win7 x64 and WLM... lately I've just been using my laptop with msn more often because of the issue on my main machine.

I can't find information on this anywhere! I'm running Windows 7 x64 RC Build 7100 on a gaming desktop: i7 920, 12 GB RAM, Radeon 4870x2. The fact that the latest WLM lags is just embarassing.

Some notes on the problem:
-Lag only seems to kick in after a couple hours of use (maybe memory leak?)
-Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing
-Antivirus and firewall fully disabled
-About 1000 contacts (yes I know that's outrageous, but the devs should've considered this)

I'm also running an ATI video card, though with an AMD processor and 6GB of RAM.

Seriously, the epic failure of Windows 7 and WLM is causing people to kill themselves. It needs to be fixed immediately.

All I can recommend is compatibility for Vista (without service packs). Use Zap Messenger and install WLM using MSI files scattered all over the internet.
Seems to have fixed it... that or I got used to the lag.

Hey, it worked! I used Zapmessenger, then just redid the WLM download from the live website, cancelled the download and told it to try again so that it gave me the wlsetup-all file instead of the wlsetup-custom file... the lag is gone! Didn't have to do compatibility mode or anything like that.

Well, looks like LuzTeTT has solved another one. If anybody needs help doing this procedure, feel free to ask.

I also solved the lag by installing an updated network on-board LAN driver for windows 7. FYI, I am using Biostar AM2+ mobo TA790GX. the driver (realtek) can be found here BIOSTAR :: TA790GX 128M :: Driver.

Ok the lag came back in.haiz.

Thank you for the helpful and important post :sarc:.

I have had no problems aside from this one issue with Win7, and it is still a problem for me now. I have tried some of the suggestions others have posted in this thread to no avail, unfortunately. Anybody else have any other ideas?

I had this exact same problem. I found it to be related to a buffer overflow when WLM tries to read a registry entry. Documented what I did to fix the problem here. Seems to have fixed it, but it's certainly a strange behavior that shouldn't be happening.

So for a few months I was pulling my hair out with the lag, and decided that when I rebuild my system, I would check it after each program install to see when the lag would show its ugly face. I have kids in the house, and we play games with their friends across town and some of those games only play on a LAN connection. We installed Wippien to simulate a LAN and when the network adapter was installed the lag came back both in messenger and in Google Chrome. When the adapter is disabled the lag is gone. I haven't looked in to the behind the scenes problems as to why there is a conflict, but at this time I narrowed it down to the network adapter from my Wippien install.

Might help some...might not be applicable to others.
