status backup canceled after image restore

Hello all,

Today, this morning, I did a system image restore, just to test if it works.
The system image was included in the backup of yesterday, 11/5/2009.

The image restore went smooth, Windows 7 is correctly restored and is running like it always did.

One thing I do not understand, the status of the backup is The last backup was canceled, and also the size of the backup is Not available

I hope someone can explain why this is?

There are 3 types of restorations, just your files, system image, and system restore. Just your files is just tha,t documents pics etc. (that is what is showing in your screen shot and what was cancelled.

It seems that you have a schedule of doing all 3 restores on a daily schedlule. When you did just the system image manually, the other backup were not done, hence cancelled. All the computer knows is that part of your scheduled backup was done and the others were not; hence cancelled.

Once a day, all 3 will be done. You will be fine, and all is ok with your computer

You may not want to do a daily system image. Once you are set up and you have everything you need, take an image, then save it. If you every want to restore it you will have the image of a new and perfect OS. If you keep making copies as little problems creep in they will be on the Image, when you do finally restore, all the little problems retrurn too

The computer does not know the size of a back up because you did a partial and not a full back up that will be scheduled, daily

Before I did this, my Windows 7 runned perfect, and the status of the backup was ok, and the size also.

After the image restore, the status and size of the backup where like the screen dump in my original message. Hence my original question.

As far as I can tell from your questions and screen shot, everything is working the way it should be. It works just like mine.

I have my system scheduled to make a backup of Files in libraries and personal folders for all users and system image.

This morning, after the backup of yesterday 17.00 the status of backup was OK, everything looked ok, and the backup was not canceled.

Now to make sure the system image could restore, I tried to restore the system image from yesterday, and this worked very good, except, my backup status was changed to canceled, and also no size is shown.

Right now, everything is back to normal, my backup has executed, and status and size are ok. See image below.



I hope I am making clear what I like to understand?

I like to know if it is normal that the backup status is canceled and the size is unknown after a system image restore.

Dont worry about your English, you are doing so much better than I would if I tried to speak your language.
Now that I read your question again, I see that I misunderstood, you asked your question very well.

YOUR COMPUTER IS WORKING FINE.

I think what happened, is that when you made your scheduled back up (all 3 backups), it made system image first. When you made a copy from system image, the image was prior to the other backups being made. So, now your image is one that is prior to system restore and system back up. Your computer does not know anything about the other 2 backups, therefore it knows it as cancelled and the size of the backup is not known.

Your computer now shows your system prior to any backups (system restore or backup and restore. Bottom line your computer is fine and acting like it should.

When you made the scheduled back up this morning. It shows the results of all the backups.

In my case at 17.00 hours.

Now, if i restore my laptop to the last image made, why is the status of the backup canceled? It should not say canceled, and the space should be the same as the day the last backup was created.

There is a third back up. It is called system restore. Go to system, go to system protection. The box that comes up give you the opportunity to see if System Restore is included in your schedule back up. On the box put that you want to restore your system, by clicking system restore. Don t worry nothing will happen, it will show you what dates are available. If no dates are available and you want to set up a date manually or on the same schedule that you have, I will tell you how.
You want to use system image to restore your computer only in the most dire circumstances. If you use it you will lose everything unless you have a back up (you lose everything that you installed since the last back up, pictures, documents, programs etc). System restore should be use in the case of an emergency. If something gets corrupted, or if you screw something up and your computer does not work properly. You can use system restore. You will not lose any personal data, documents etc, you will lose new programs. System restore is mostly used, if you install a program, its hoses your computer, and you want to remove it, but for some reason you can't or after you remove it your computer still has problems. Use system restore (it backs up automatically priror to any big change to your system), and your system is restored to the point just before the installation.
