oh so you have a HP bios. yes it may lock out performance options. so will it allow you to overclock the CPU? or it does not even have that? does it have a section saying something like voltage settings or something?

EDIT i had a look on the HP website and after reading all the online manuals, i found nothing on the bios, then i went to the 'how to' section and found my way through to the bios setup, if your pc is the one in your specs, SR5060AN, all it has is the main screen, advanced (nothing useful) and power options. if i were you, the next step is to upgrade to anything apart from a HP motherboard. I personally like EVGA motherboards, Asus are good but expensive for that brand name. the reason i say this is you cannot control anything but shared graphics with that HP board.

It's some Pheonix Technologies or something, I'm fine for now, I can run Bf2 and some other powerful games, I'll get a couple of books on computers and probably in 6 to 12 months I'll look into building a decent PC.

Pheonix Tech is just the maker of the BIOS chip. they have been the I.T. industry standard for decades.

Like Torrentg posted before, there maybe a bios 'hack' for that mobo, but the risk of doing things like that can cause the mobo to become 'bricked' (unusable to the point when you will turn it on and it wont beep or anything) and the only way around that that i know of is to get a replacement BIOS chip (thats if its on a removable socket), so like Torrentg said, it is risky, but if it was me in your position, i like to tinker and would try and find it. you just have to be 100% sure its made for your mobo and it actually works.

good thinking Torrentg! just like the firmware hacks for modems and routers. i just never thought they would make them for mobo bios's, and after all, why not, a company that restricts you from taking full advantage of your own hardware should be a crime!.

I think i'll be alright for now, when I do learn more about computers and have a decent amount of money to save up then, I'll shop around for components and add them to a wishlist type thing, then I'll mess around with the motherboard and from there I'll see what upgrades, if any I could do the the HP machine, and if it stuffs up then I can go a month on the laptop.

you can alter the HP machine, its just once you change the mobo to something else, all thats HP is the box.lol. i know what you mean by a wish list. mine has an i7 on it.lol. i just ordered some upgrades (cooling parts) as its been a while since i done something with it.

no that is a test of the memory transfer bandwidth of your ram, it is testing how fast it can transfer/read at in megabytes per second. 1600mhz is the frequency speed of the chips on the ram. when you go into the BIOS does it say your ram is running at 1600mhz? or have you got CPU-Z? that will tell you the speed your system is running at.

and that picture you posted is a good speed!

your ram is actually running at 1066mhz, its 533x2 (double data rate). so you will have to manually set it in the bios, make sure your voltage is set at the proper setting that OCZ state first, then adjust the ram to 1600mhz. let me know how you get on.

EDIT: IF your ram has major issues running at 1600mhz, then consider taking a look at this forum thread i just found through googling your ram model number. NOTE that an RMA is always the last resort, but hopefully not for you

well i got it thank you. If i never posted i would of never found out my ish was running low, always thought it was x3.

NOW thats more like it! now your running the kick butt i7 speed!lol did your WEI increase at all?

triple channel is the 'link speed' between the ram modules, earlier core 2 and pentium setups run a dual channel (128bit transfer interface) and now the i7 uses tri channel (192 or 256bit? cant remember) which is what also makes the i7 setup so great! it does not have anything to do with the actual speed of the memory. cpu-z now shows around 800mhz, which is ddr 1600. if it was a ddr2 800mhz ram it would show 400mhz, which is the term double data rate.

NO that SPD tab is simply a example chart, it is not your actual values. that is why it does not show the speeds. i gave you the link to your ram, even there it states 1.65v.

Im also guessing the voltage was lower than that because when i first turned my memory up to 1600 mhz my temp went up and now when i turned it to 1.65v it also went up again...

Higher power = higher temperature. I'm sure it's fine.

That's why performance RAM like OCZ has heat spreaders.
