Windows 7 with Radeon HD 5770

You should try to find a setting in the Catalyst Control Centre or in the Realtek control panel if you have Realtek sound to output sound via HDMI. As for the crashes, don't install the Control Centre. That might be a cause.

I've read somewhere that the cause of the crash for the ati 9.11 is with a windows update. I've reformatted my system and i've notice after i've updated and installed microsoft security essentials the driver started to crash. I will try to reinstall again and not update and not install MSE. Anyone heard of this issue?

No, but if true, once again antivirus causing issues. Antivirus is 100x more trouble than it's worth. Backups, smart downloading, Malwarebytes (with no services running or set to Auto) and Jotti.org is all you need.

Thanks torrentg! If i haven't shave off my hair I probably don't have them anymore. I think this is my 10th time I have installed windows 7. I tried to return my video card to the shop and they tested it with windows vista home premium 32bit and It was working. When I fail to install again I'll probably go back to vista home premium.

The funny thing is when I was using the upper dvi port of my sapphire 5770 I notice that there were some redraws in the screen when windows 7 was booting up (the blue screen with the circular gradient) but when I used the lower dvi port the changing of the screen and gradient flow seems to be smoother. I know it should but I really notice the difference. I hope I explained it clearly and you guys know what im talking about:)

So I've read that a few people have actually solved this issue by setting the power option to never put computer to sleep.

Not sure how much water it holds though... Just tryin' to help.

Discuss...

That's because the issue, as I've been saying, is most likely related to other drivers on the system and not the video card driver itself.

They would have to disagree with you here...AMD Game Forums - ATI Radeon HD5770 / 5750 issues ;)

I mean all 0x116 errors in general. No matter which version of drivers users try, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. I've helped troubleshoot at least 30 or 40 of these.

The 5xxx series of cards may be different however, because of its own specific driver.

That's really the crux of the situation.

ATI/AMD had better get a fix on this issue. I know I won't be touching one of these anytime soon. I personally think it's either hardware or driver issue with the card itself. The 4000 series don't seem to suffer from this problem. Sure there are driver issues, but this 5000 series issue seems to be something entirely different.

At any rate I don't have any solutions to offer at this time, I'm just voicing my opinion on the subject.

Good luck to all.

Well my card is a 4870 and i have been having the same problems as everyone with the 500 series, yet i know loads of ppl running the same card on the same Os with the same drivers i have been useing and thay have no problems at all.
I'm 100% sure there is a problem with some cards that has been sent out, i filled in a return form for my card, and just thought before i do send it back i will test my system useing my old graphic card and guess what, yeps you guessed it no crashes at all.

Have you run driver sweeper and tried the newest driver without Catalyst Control Centre? I'm buying a 4890 now instead of a 5770. Seems to have too many issues. Cheaper and faster too.

Agreed, but the 128-bit memory bus of the 5770 will bottleneck it in games, the 4890 has a 256-bit bus.

Dude, that sucks...

Just hang in there, I'm sure they'll get this fixed.

Btw, sorry if you mentioned this already but... Have you tried with the 9.11-hot fix?.

You know, the one that's supposed to fix DiRT 2's performance problems...
