Loaded LOTR Battle for Middle Earth 2 and its expansion pack The Rise of the Witch-King. Patched both games before trying to play them. When the game loads i only get to the loading screen before it crashes/fails to load.

Have updated all drivers for video card, sound card and so on.

Computer specs:

Windows 7 64 bit
Mother Board MSI 790 FX-GD70
CPU AMD 3 at 3.4 gighz
Ram 8 gigs at 1600 mhz
Video Card ATI 4850, 1 gig of memory

Please let e know if theirs a fix for this or not.

I`ve got the same problem here. I have 2 pc. One is a Dell Vostro 430 and LOTR BFME 2 doenst work.
On the other pc it work great. The other pc has 2 gb ram , intel E8400 and nvidia gf-250.
Both computers have Windows 7 installed from the same DVD. Both computers have 191.07 nvidia drivers.
The instalation was exactly the same on both computers.
The error is: "Runtime Error! Programs: ...game.dat
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Found the solution... I bet you have a big monitor, as i do. It seems EA doesnt like big monitors. So the solution is to add an Options.ini in the C:\Users\[your login name]\AppData\Roaming\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) Files folder (or C:\Documents and Settings\[your login name]\Application Data\My Battle for Middle-earth(tm) II Files if you use XP) and put the following content in that new created file:
AudioLOD = High
HasSeenLogoMovies = yes
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
Resolution = 1024 768
StaticGameLOD = High
TimesInGame = 5

Please tell me if it works. (i havent reached home to test it, but i`m pretty sure that`s the problem because i have 2 different pc. One that works and one that doesnt work. The one that works has a 1280x1024 maximum resolution capable attached to the comp. The other one who doesnt work has a 1920x1080 res)

Not sure if it was your fix, or trying to run from the CD instead of the shortcut, but it works. However, i still had data left over from my old install on XPSP3 and it started right up using it.

Make sure in the Control Panel -> Folder Options that you have Hide extensions for Known files types UNchecked and that the .ini file isnt really a .txt.

Same as always, right click -> Rename, and change it to .ini and click outside the file name, and then ok when it asks if you want to change the extension type.

Thats because it thinks your running an illegal copy. It did this to me once ages ago, but I put it down to the fact i was running it with a NoCD game.dat

I just reinstalled the whole game and its worked fine ever since.

I reinstalled the game and it isn`t better. But now i noticed that it doesn`t end when the enemy appears but in about 3 and a half minutes of playing. Do you know the solution for this ? :\ :confused:

MMMM reinstalling fixed my problem. Ok heres what i'd do:

  1. Uninstall the game then reboot pc
  2. Navigate to where you had it installed and delete the folder
  3. Navigate to C:\Users\"your name"\AppData\Roaming and delete the folder (you may want to take out your save files first)
  4. Reboot your PC
  5. Install the game and then navigate back into the roaming folder and do what it says in post 2 on this link : [SOLVED] Battle For Middle Earth II - Tech Support Forum
  6. Start the game

doesen`t work :(

ahh, when you create it, you name it as options.ini. Now, just go to the text file, and select save as... then rename it to options.ini ok?

I did it and the game starts but after 3 an a half minutes I lose the game because all my worriors die and all my buildings crash down.
