Hey guys, I upgraded to x64 and I do notice a nice speed change. But, when looking at my hard drive I notice a folder called Programs Files (x84). Is this safe to delete? If so, how can I delete it?

Thanks guys!

NO!

It is the program folder for non x64 bit programs.

That's mostly imagined and from the fact it's a clean install unless you're doing video editing or similar.

Listen to 'Bob. He's right on. The Program Files folder is for x64, while (as 'Bob mentioned) the Program Files (x86) is for 32bit programs.

No, there is a change. I am a heavy video editor, while multitasking with other tasks, and the speed that I am experiencing now opposed to when I was running 32-bit, is a HUGE difference. My computer is running much more smoother, slicker, and faster.

And therein lies the reason you are seeing the speed diff & torrentg did mention video editing. ;)
These are the areas it's most noticeable, but for gaming & everyday tasks there's very little diff in speeds.
I've done numerous tests to see for myself as well as real-world apps testing. :geek:
The major benefit as everyone already knows is there's basically no memory limits (192 Gbs usable) with W7U x64 were as the x86 system limit is 4Gbs total which includes HW (hardware) memory usage.
That's why most will see that they got 3.325Gbs usable RAM (or there abouts) out of the installed 4 is because the other HW is using the rest.

I think you guys are taking his post wrong. :D

I don't think he's being sarcastic. Only informative. But of course, I can not speak for him. Only my opinion.

Indeed it can be. Stay out of the Chillout Room, and you should be ok.

I just loaded my VB6 PE that ran on XP. When I tried to load the MSDN it reported that the OS I was using was not compatible. Why did it load the first disk and not the second ?? Could I be running 64 bit without knowing ? I don't remember having to make a choice during set-up. I assume I am running 32 bit

Sorry yanks0826, I meant no disrespect & wasn't trying to be sarcastic (at least I didn't think so)...just informative. ;)
Not all users of W7 are totally tech savy & that is the reason for the way I worded my post.

Yes, this is a very, very good source for info on W7 so stick around & learn some more!!! :geek:
How I found this place was Googleing questions on "How to" when I first started working with W7U beta & this site kept coming up in the results with the correct information I needed! So I decided to stay & learn some more & have never stopped learning new stuff with this new OS. :zip:

For example...here's one cool plugin I learned about here in the Windows Media Center section of this forum which is Media Browser! I'd never heard about this until this forum!
Extremely cool plugin so check it out...it's in a sticky in that section.
