Is it just me or is this place hopping since the new year?
So many folks that are installing Win7 and not doing their homework first.

I wish before joining the forum you must answer a few questions first.

1. Did you check and see if you can run Win7 on your computer by running the FREE MS Windows 7 Advisor?

2. If you ran the advisor and it said you had hardware and software problems did you still continue to install Win7?

3. Before you install Win7 did you backup all your important files to DVD or CD?

4. Are you sure you backed up your data on DVD or CD? ( Repeat statement)

5. OK. Now did you read how to install Win7 so you hit the correct answers when installing? If not go to tutorial section and read.

6. When you have a problem please arrange in your mind what you want first before writing.

Wrong Way. I have a computer and Win7 screwed it up now what do I do?

Correct Way. My desktop PC with Motherboard XYZ, HD 500Gb (1partition), Bios are updated, Video card is XYZ, Memory is (2) 1 gig Corsair XMT. Don't have a virus scan software and my firewall is down so I can play my favorite online game faster.
My question is why do I get the BSOD when I go online to my free cracked gaming site that my mother would kill me if she knew. Oh I think I caught the H1N1 virus from that prom site I just clicked on.

Too many folks need to read more and at least try and figure out what they did to casue their problem.

No more soapbox for me.

Any why doesn't SevenForum have a spell check. :D

I made a suggestion to Brink earlier about having to have to fill in system specs before you're able to post on the site, as many users seem to be capable to give them on a thread but often need to be asked for them, and the point was made that many people might not bother with the site.

Perhaps something simple like a pop up reminder before they make their first post or something.

As for a spell checker, I use Firefox so it has one built in.

I think you're right. I expected it to happen after Oct 22, It did get busy but then slowed down again.

Christmas was probably a big Windows 7 day....

What would you do about the people that honestly don't know where to find their system information? They wouldn't be able to post at all. There could possibly be a reminder on the 'create thread' index in bold, red letters reminding posters that the more information, the better.

We had a lively discussion back a bit in The Gurus Lounge about this and came to the conclusion that as much as we wish, not even a majority of the new users are going to fill out the specs unless they are pounded over the head...we concluded that its a lot less stressful for all concerned to do as much as we can with what we have.. ;)

What would you do about the people that honestly don't know where to find their system information?
It could tell them in the popup, or refer them to a certain page showing them how to find it.

I appreciate it that you guys have been talking about it but you may need to look at it as a pro-active approach in helping to solve their computer problems.

A few questions or suggestions up front for new users could eliminate hundreds or even thousands of additional messages back and forth.

Do you have a laptop or a desktop system?
How much memory does your computer have?
Was your install an upgrade or a full clean install?
Can you spell cat?

I still would like to see a spell chickerrrrr. :D

Why don't manufacturers properly list their specs? I've never seen detailed motherboard, chipset, PSU or RAM info. That's why building is always better. Even worse, why does no one know the importance of drivers and avoiding useless software? Ohhh I won - just have to click here. Wait that's an interesting popup (groans come out of speakers).
