Hi,

I had to update my bios to fix a bug with a memory problem, update went ok but whne I booted into windows 7 I was asked to re activate windows, I had to do that a few weeks ago due to installing a new boot drive so was surprised a simple bios update triggers windows 7 to re activate, is this real of a bug on my pc ?

Thanks,

Mart.

If you are asked to activate you must, its real. If it is a computer bug, the bug will signal that you are not activated to MS.

If you go to computer icon and right click, on the page that appears do you see the authentic MS, symbol on the lower right? I bet you dont. Its easy to activate, if there is a problem you will be dircted to a phone number. You can activate by phone, if there are further problems, you will be directed to a person, who will activate you.

I have updated my BIOS many times and never been asked to re-activate Windows.

It must be another problem. Have you restored an image? That MIGHT do it....if it was not activated when you created the image.

Updating your BIOS should not effect Windows.....unless maybe if you did it from WITHIN Windows....I've never done that.

Hi,

I did use MSI live update inside windows to update the bios, never had this with xp when I did the last update, after a reboot it asks for re activate and I had only 3 days left, rebooted again and it says activated and the MS logo is showing, I wonder what happened here?

If you do not get notified to reactivate, just write it off as a temporary glitch.

Go to administratrs account type cmd

In cmd type sfc /scannow. If it is a glitch in the Software, this should correct it.

Hi,

Simple really, I had a problem with the correct amount and settings for memory being incorrectly detected in the bios, plus there was a probem booting to usb with the older bios, this was fixed in the update.

Thanks,

Martin.

Hi,

Done that and got an error about acitvation server the specified product key could not be used ??

Tried to inc a snip tool image with this. All I can think of is this has something to do with calling MS for activation after I replaced my drive a few weeks ago, this install of windows has been activated the one time after install, upgraded from xp with a clean install.

Thanks,

Mart.

Very strange indeed.

I wonder whether something could have occurred when the authentication key was being sent to the Microsoft server.

Maybe even a glitch on the server side.

I would call Microsoft. This is beyond something that can be fixed from the client side, I believe.

Hi,

This beats me, so far its still saying activated, it genuine, should be, it cost enough ! And everything was ok when I phoned MS after instaling the new hard drive, one bios update caused this ? If I get another warning about activation, do I call MS to activate or is there some call center that deals with this ?

Thanks,

Mart

Problem solved?

Sorry to revive old thread.

To OP: Do you solve the problem? I mean even though Windows script days product key invalid, is your Win7 is still activated and performs so far without activation problems?

I have the same situation as yours currently, the only difference is my motherboard has 2 BIOS chips, the first BIOS (BIOS1) still perfectly activated Win7, although using older BIOS version. The current BIOS (BIOS2) is installed with newer version, Win7 properties says activated but slmgr.vbs -ato says product key is cannot be used - same as yours.
