agreed I get annoyed when I see someone make a post on some site about tech info and they just post a link. I see it as wrong. No problem crediting the source but to force me to another site to read the content is a no no.

No it's not - don't be lazy! No need to create thousands of copies of web pages all over the net. This is a free forum to you and bandwidth costs the owners.

One thing I hate is *not* getting information from the source. How do I know it's not been edited? How do I know It's not been generated like all those BS email forwards that are full of lies? Yes, that's right - any punk kid can successfully troll a board with a BS post reportedly copypasta'd from "the source" and create havoc.

Learn to use the web & don't be lazy. The truth is only a click away.

Srsly, I don't see why one-stop-shopping for settings isn't a standard for all OSes & all software. Why create such a "secret" feature?

I don't think it is exactly secret, per se.
Realize that not all people (infact a large majority) don't really want to know how to use or work with windows.
They just want it to work. But you give them all the things they can use to mess up their system and they will use them. I have seen it too many times.

more things should remain hidden, accessible only to those who know how to use them and won't complain when something they did goes wrong.

I am not sure if posting a link takes up any more resources than posting a (Text)copy of the complete link source ? I do know that the bandwidth is paid up. Use within that resource does not add to the expense.

The "original" link can often be a copy or quote also. I have experienced this many times. There are several instances in these pages.

Following your last sentence to its logical conclusion. With the immensity of the web now, maybe many sites such as this one could close without loss of information. Anyone seeking that info could merely browse and. possibly, obtain something from the original source? Brink's tutorials, for example, cover pretty closely, almost every possible combination of Windows 7 problems. Why bother with suggestions on other sites?

This is why your comment has no merit.

The standard way is to provide a small snippet of an article (a teaser), and a link to the original. This is so:
a. The original author gets credit for his/her work (the cut'n'paster can't claim authorship)... and
b. The original author can get paid (page views = ad revenue).

If you don't know the original source, link to the source you have. Interested parties can pursue it further.

So if you want to know more, follow the link. Its really not that strenuous...
