Sounds like the Cable to me, are you sure you used the right one.

I have a pic of how i connected it.
One of them shows the cable, which i suspect that might cause the problem.

The 3pin (white) that's shouldn't be plugged in at all your should only need SATA power witch is to the left and the red SATA cable.

I have pretty much the same drive but I got the "black" edition...

It came with no jumpers installed BUT a bag with a little jumper was in a plastic bag...not sure about you Sergio...also I would reccomend getting a better PSU as a PSU with only one SATA connection these days tells you something is very very wrong

I would imagine this was the first time you have installed a new HD correct? It was a mistake a first timer would make as those pins look perfect (and apparently are so) for a pin connection. It sucks that you will have to buy another drive as you wait for this to be replaced...don't feel bad about it...coulda happened to the best of us

If anything you walk away from the situation with more knowledge about hardware (might save your bacon next time), possible two HDs (more space the better), and hopefully made other users here realize the sheer power of the SF movement for helping folks (the response time here is incredible)

Briefly--EG stands for EcoGreen. It is a 5400 rpm drive designed to save power and still provide good performance. That is why it is less expensive.

It may well be an excellent drive in its category. The reviews at above link look OK.

But the purists will tell you it is slow. Whether you would be disappointed is another matter.

I have a green WD drive and use it for storage, not my OS.

It should run very cool. Samsungs generally do.

It's your call on whether to live with 5400 or move to 7200 rpm. It should have 500 gig platters, which would mean it should do very well for a 5400 rpm drive.

It depends on your needs and budget. If you had a huge budget and wanted a blazing fast drive to put your OS on, you would buy a SSD. If you are trying to get the most storage for your money, you would buy a cheap 5400 RPM drive.

What are you planning on using the drive for? Storage? Your main OS?

As I recall from your build thread of several weeks ago, you were quite budget conscious at that time ($800 to $900) for everything but software, KB, mouse, and monitor. Then yesterday you lost roughly $90 of that by accident.

So it's back to budget and you are in charge.

The difference between that Samsung and a comparable 7200 RPM drive like you lost yesterday is probably no more than $20 in the USA.

Kinda tough to direct you further. That WD Blue you lost yesterday is a good fast drive (nearly as fast as the Black series), but if you had the Green drive and didn't know it, you might never complain.

On an enthusiast forum, which this sorta is, few people would tell you to get the Green as an OS drive, but so what? The Green drive is faster than most 7200 RPM drives were 2 or 3 years ago, just by virtue of denser platters.

And for my need i would prefer space over speed.

But, i could end up with another 7200rpm drive, if Novatech agrees and sends me a new HDD.
Then i could just have the OS on that and use the other as secondary HDD

It is dead I mean if i convince them that it was DOA.
And yes i have, i just need some of those converters Doc posted a pic of

That SpinPoint is a good drive for what you want it for.
