Aim's buddylist won't close

I downloaded AIM 7 and it works great! The issue I have is a minor one though- I can't close the buddylist. When speaking with someone I usually prefer to have it closed, especially with Window 7's style of stacking windows.

Whenever I close the program it just minimizes it. It even does this if I right click and select 'close'.

The only way to close the buddylist is to end the process using task manager.

Like I said, it isn't a huge issue, but I was curious if this is some sort of Windows 7 feature or what.

I believe Windows Live Messenger does the same thing. Look in Options, there may be a way to disable that.

Aim doesn't seem to have a way to change this in options. Odd..

I believe the way to fix this is aim is right click on the icon on the taskbar and select exit aim.

Heh. Well of course, but in Vista I could close the buddylist without closing AIM

Though once again, not a huge deal.

True not a huge deal but somewhat annoying. I hope AIM sees this as a problem and adds a fix in the next AIM version.

AIM will not see this as a problem, instead, it's actually a selling point to them. Who know the customers better than the people in sit the boardroom and who never use the product.

Digsby is a great replacement and will load your aim (and many others) buddy list.

I have the same problem as well, and it didn't start until I upgraded from AIM 7.0 to 7.1. You don't have to use task manager though, just click menu then click exit. Simple as that. It's an extra step, but it works.

Worked perfect. You must have AIM version 7.2 installed though.

My Buddylist settings doesn't even give me that option. And, the latest version of AIM is 7.1.6.4, which is the one I have. I wonder why mine doesn't say that...

EDIT: I stand corrected on the 7.1 thing

Oh, that doesn't work as well as you think, aim.exe is still running in task manager.

Google AIM 7.2. It's a beta version.

Yeah I know, I downloaded it. But it still doesn't close aim.exe, it just hides that it's running. When I want it to close, I want it to close.

That was the point of this entire topic. To just hide it, not turn it off. That way you can still talk to people without having that irritating buddy list open (which is a butt pain with both the super bar and alt+tab).

If you want it turned off after hiding it, click the little arrow at the far right of your superbar/taskbar bar, right click the little IM guy, then select Exit AIM.

Yeah, in AIM 7.0, this was not an issue. 7.1 introduced it and 7.2 and later fixed it with the instructions that Tessa2104 provided. This topic is really old though so I think it was figured out a while ago.
