New netbook want to connect to PC

Hi All,
I have just bought the latest Samsung N220 with Windows 7 Starter and need a little advise.
I want to connect to my PC Windows 7 via my router have been on internet so know that it works, I will follow the tutorial on setting that up my questions are

1. File sync is that a feature within Win 7 or do I need a program, office 2007 on both machines
2. Firewalls and AV do I need the same program on both, came with free Mcafee and I have Kaspersky 2010 on PC.

Windows 7 has a built-in backup (Windows Backup) and synchronization function (Sync Center) but they’re not as easy to use and are limited in feature's, you can download SyncToy which I haven't really used but many people claim works well , and theres a few more free tools out there

It doesn't matter that your systems run different Firewall's and AV's
