We all know IE have problems rendering certain pages and for those that are like me that are still sticking with it for various reasons (like we are used to it or we dont want to install another browser if OS comes with browser already) i have perfect solution.

We all know youtube started with beta HTML5 support. That lead me to this addon called ChromeFrame. This is basicaly addon that adds Chrome WebKit engine as "plugin" for IE with all benifits like HTML5, chrome javascript etc. So you dont need to run 2 browser or whatever you just install this plugin and thats it!

Link is here

ok now how to use it. Pages can support GoogleFrame and IE will automaticaly switch to it for rendering. However if/when it doesnt you simply write cf: infront of URL and you force page to render with ChromeFrame. There is also registry script (can post it if interest) in case you want to render ALL pages with ChromeFrame. This is basicaly what some people where asking for IE9... IE with WebKit!

And here is ACID3 with IE (ok technicaly its not but... ;))!

IE8 (on Win7 at least) had for me at least 2 BIG issues. One was IE was crashing often on certain pages, luckly none of the "pages i visit most" was among them, so i just lived with it. This problem went away in last month or two of "unoffical" updates, that updated a lot of IE components. Other issue was, rendering on some pages and this just got solved with this plugin. So for now i dont have any more "issues" that would bug me.

Also dont think i try to defend IE8 or that im big fan of IE or something like that, but generaly IE suits my needs "just fine" and have no reason to change to something else "if browser comes with OS" :)

Here is examples of this rendering that IE8 doesnt do well (see position of screenshot box), i dont use that page often but still:

Also another note: if you want to use flash in ChromeFrame rendered pages you also need to install Flash Plugin, ActiveX control is not enough. But thats small price to pay for such a briliant addon!

That are "hotfixes" that you must download manually to install them and they suppose to solve different issues, some of them are not released officially thats why "unofficial". But this is ont topic of this topic, also dont think talking about this hotfixes is allowed on this forum.

Shame, I would've liked to try them.

Back on topic, maybe I'll try this out on IE 8 x64.

EDIT: Never mind, looks like it doesn't support 64-bit browsers (I can't watch anything in IEx64).

Just an FYI guys, if you end up using Google Chrome, then use of the Accelerators is disabled (when you highlight stuff and right-click, the menu no longer gives you the option to use Accelerators). However, I think the trade off is worth it.

Are there any other downfalls to using this expect the accelerators?I mean if I do the system registry where it runs all the time can it harm my computer? Will it affect its security or anything like that? Thanks

Well thing is noone knows :) Fact is there are exploits for IE, there are exploits for Chrome. However i doubt those "known" ones are working in IE with Chrome engine. Im sure there could be some new exploit because of ChromeFrame, however real question is, will people bother to find it... Biggest reason why "it seems" there is so many bugs in IE is just because most people are using it and more exploits are found, not because it would actualy have more security holes. So my thinking is that with using ChromeFrame, until every 2nd person will use it, we are pretty safe, since noone will bother to search for exploits.

Ok thanks. I will try it. So I need to just click that attached file you have listed and follow those steps and it should run every time for every window? Will shutting down the pc or anything like that disable it or will it always run like that? How would I ever take it off? Sorry for all the questions. Im just trying to figure it out before I decide to try it. Thanks

Actually if you look at the security tracking sights and the diff files of the other browsers there are lots of potential exploits (buffer overflows and script holes and oh ghod the plugin bugs) fixed with every other release of FF as well as the other browsers.

The REAL difference is that an exploit in FF is almost never front page news like IE is. It's found, fixed and almost never makes news even on /. WHich is a shame for the FF users as most of them that I talk too seem to think that FF is compeltely impervious and once installed never needs to be updated 9.9

Updates to OSX and Safari have included up to as many as 10 exploit fixes in a single push back when I was tracking that OS. But you certainly would never hear about that anywhere but the fine print... :)

I clicked the attachment you listed for forcing ie to always run in google frame and it opens a window I click run and it loads and then nothing happens. I do not think it worked because I can still find accelerators and stuff like that. How do i get it to work or how do I know if it did? It does not seem any faster.

You might need to run it "as admin", otherwise to check if plugin works just write cf: in front of some address and it should open it with chromeframe.
