Cloning the C:\Users structure in the another partition

HI

Using the Command Prompt in Windows 7, how do I clone the exact structure (including all system permissions) of the directory C:\Users and its substructure C:\Users\Public in the root directory of the another partition?

Really, I only wanted to clone these two objects in another partition maintaining, but, also all the permission system. So how do I do this using the robocopy and icacls command?

If you would like to use the command prompt, an easy way is to run

copy C:\users\public E:

Replace E with the drive letter of the directory you want to save to.

Not clear on what you want to do.

If you copy C users it will automatically copy C users public and all other folders under C users.

Do you want to copy ONLY C users public?

What is the other partition? D:?

I never heard of icacls.

robocopy or xcopy could probably do what you want, but it's unclear to me exactly what you want.

If you open a command prompt and type robocopy /? it will list all the available switches. It looks like the /SEC switch will copy permissions.

With robocopy the syntax is:

robocopy C:\Users  X:\Users /E /ZB /COPYALL

Change X:\Users to destination drive and folder you want. Options: /E copies all subdirectories including empty ones, /ZB copies file in backup mode if access is denied because of rights or if file is in use, /COPYALL copies permissions and file info.

Also, I noticed that the system permissions of the X partition are not the same C partition. So, how do I make sure that the system permissions of the X partition are the same as the C partition?

The permissions of the Authenticated Users user of X partition does not coincide with those of the C partition. Therefore, what command should I use?

Here is another command that might work:

Xcopy c:\users x:\ /k /o

where x is the destination drive.
