Nvidia's first DirectX 11 cards GeForce GTX 480/470

I agree Frostmourne, my machine plays pretty much all games so perfectly using my single GTX 280 I can't hardly think of a reason to upgrade my GPU.

Although doubling the frame rate plus DX11 might be worth it. These new cards might make the games play even better if the drivers are good.

I'll wait until the price drops down a bit and see what other Nvidia cards come out.

Play better if I get lag/stuttering or play better just because they can?

Either way, DirectX11 is a superset of DirectX 10. So, GPU's for Direct X 10.1 or 10 will ignore all features of 11 and use the sets they understand. Although that kind of defeats the point of DirectX 11 games in the first place if the game engine is built properly for 10/10.1 . . . .

Well if they stick to their Q1 release date, they have until the end of March. So anytime now benchmarks should appear.

or not,

Jensen has just finished his keynote and at the end of it it showed off a Fermi GF100 card and announced three monitor 3D stereo. He also said that Fermi is in full volume production as we speak and it should launch in Q1 2010.

We asked one of the many VPs around us and we learned that when Jensen says Q1 2010 he means Nvidia’s fiscal Q1 rather than real people’s Q1. Nvidia’s Q1 starts in January and ends on April 30th so the worst case scenario for Nvidia is to launch a card sometime in April.

Fudzilla - Nvidia Fermi to come in Nvidia’s Q1

Well either way, an extra month will make no difference. It was said to be released last October originally, I'm sure everyone who wants one, including me, can wait another month.

I agree with Frostmourne here as well.

i soooo want to upgrade tio the newest and best GPU, but the simple fact ..

My 4890 Vapor-X runs all my games with out any problems at all at 1080P.

So guess Ill wait a bit longer, or at least till DX11 becomes more of a common or the 4890 begins struggling. just can't warrant the upgrade yet :-/

Like, yeah man.

Well either way, an extra month will make no difference. It was said to be released last October originally, I'm sure everyone who wants one, including me, can wait another month.

I'd realistically expect to see them 'commonly available' and at 'stable' pricing around June/July.

I'll most likely hold off buying one until end of May/beginning of June for drivers to hopefully be properly stable and when I have some spare money to throw in to my PC.

I wouldn't know because I get zero lag or stuttering even on max settings, but mostly it's because I can just purchase another GPU and increase gaming frame rates without any need to upgrade the rest of my system. Although the cost to performance ratio may not add up.

About the only way to induce lag is to use more than 4X AA which makes very little difference in visual appeal anyway. It's going to be awhile before the DX11 is mainstream but better frame rates is always good.

It's not only the drivers for said graphics card that makes system unstable, it's also the rest of your configuration.

I for one have never had any issuse with nvidia cards/drivers since the beginning of time.

rst101 who said anything about unstable?

an example is a problem nvidia acknowledged recently is that all drivers made after 182.50 (wddm 1.1) had broken nvidia scaling.
another problem is the 59khz issue people have reported breaking some games.

these issues arent crashing systems so the driver remains stable so to speak but are still problems driver side.

Release is said to be after Cebit, which means 2nd half of March. Full availibity will be in Q2. Fingers crossed.

Bit of a necro, I know, but saves making another thread.

Edit: Nvidia's Facebook page also says there's going to be a major announcement on Monday...

still no benchmarks....... if they had something that would beat ati's cards you'd think they would give some benches out..... i'm thinking this will be a flop... i might be wrong but..... we'll see

Or maybe they just want to make people wait instead of blowing their own horn.

Need to see what happens on Monday and at Cebit.

Volume NVIDIA GF100 products in May 2010

An interesting development, though I feel it's safe to say we can expect a launch of high-end GF100 based graphics cards somewhere next month Jen-Hsun Huang in his quarterly financial reports mentioned that the Fermi architecture aka GF100 aka NV60 aka G300 aka GT300 aka GeForce Series 400 will start playing a role in Q2 of this year. That means for NVIDIA that volume availability of a series of new products would be released at the end of April or early May, and not March as earlier expected.

Almost sounds like a paper launch.
