Well, simply put it, I suffer from it and it's a terrible feeling. Despite seeking help and seeking counseling, nothing seems to make it go away. I guess time is the healer and patience is a virtue.

I apologize If I'm sounding negative, pessimistic and overall down, but I'm feeling a little bored at the moment.

So I guess my question is have you ever suffered from depression ?

Are you a happy person in your life ?

not at all, i suffer from it to, for as long as i can remember. it's not that i have anything to be unhappy about it's just a medical condition. what meds do you take for it? i've tried just about everything but because i have an extremely high metabolism medicine has an odd effect on me so i can't function on anti depressants. on the bright side a single tylenol will get rid of a killer headache in about 10-15 minutes

I have suffered from it (and still have bouts occasionally, but they are rarer and rarer).
I even went to a hospital for a week, then therapy for a couple months.
(Therapy is stupid btw, I hated it)
I was on meds for it as well.

To be honest, none of that helped. It was not the doctors that puled me from it, nor was it all that crap they shoved into my body.
One reason was that I was sick of being in there and dealing with it, so I just let them think I was getting better. Now, by that point, I was pretty much fine, but of course no one believes you.

It can be extremely frustrating.
My best advice is to find something you love doing, something that is just plain damned fun. And use that to just enjoy life. Go out and climb a mountain, stand at the peak and look down, around. Go camping and get burned playing with fire.
For me, what really pulled me out was my disdain for all of those that thought they were helping. Not to say that they didn't mean well, but it just really pissed me off. They all thought they knew me, and knew why I felt the way I did. But they were all wrong.
I know that it was in part caused by the stress of starting my first year of high school, coupled with doing marching band as well. It didn't help that I had few friends, and had an unfortunate break up that I blamed heavily on myself.

But in the end, you can push past it. If you don't think it will ever go away, it won't. If you find something you love to do, just forget about the depression and it will go away over time.

Hope this helps.

I took meds called : "Cipralex" I took them for over a month and a half and unfortunately they didn't do squat for me. I'm currently seeing a psychologist as well, I'll admit that it's not much of a help. I guess in the end, depression is all in my mind, If I survive the storm then perhaps everything will be ok.

I was diagnosed with cynical Depression and Anxiety about 25 years ago.

Sense than I have been on anti-depressants and xanex. Primarily due to the
anxiety I have become a recluse. I lost a very good job, and with it my career.

I have been disabled for the last 20+ years and unable to work. The medication has made it difficult for me to think. I cannot function in public because I panic at the least bit of stress.

That is what can happen if a person continues to depend on anti-depressants.

I have lost everything, Including my Wife of 27 years and my ability to think clearly.

I tried to establish a relationship with a new woman but simply could not handle it.
I tried to go to work but had lost all desire. I simply did not care if I wound up living
on the street. I simply could work up the courage to look for work. So I filed for disability and have been living from month to month sense than without hope for anything better.

With benefit of hindsight, I do not think that I should have allowed the doctor to
force me to stay on anti-depressants. I believe that my problem was severe anxiety and not depression.

I firmly believe that I was mis-diagnosed and that my fall from a being a successful Accountant with an middle class existence has been caused by the medication.

My problems could have been worked out if I had not started the medication to start with. It is too late now. I am living on disability, Have no social life and am
just waiting to die.

The bottom line is that I highly recommend staying away from anti-depressants they change the way your mind functions.

I am convinced ( with benefit of hindsight ) that if I had tried to work thur my problems without any medication, I would now be finishing a 30 year career with a great company and looking forward to retirement with a substantial pension and with my wife by my side.

Please remember: Doctors are not Gods, They pass out anti-depressants like candy
they do have a good effect at first but over a number of years they do more harm than good.

This is based on my personal experience and may not hold true for others. Just food for thought. Some work on oneself and professional therapy may be the solution.
At least try it first.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing that, just by reading it seems like you've been through a lot in your life. I wish you all the best. Your advice is very powerful, I need to find something though, I'm just not quite sure what it is exactly.

I am only 17, and still have yet to hit college (next year!). Though I am excited for that, I am still slightly concerned that perhaps the stress might push me over into depression again.

On the other hand, I get to go to college to learn about something I love, and that will make any work much better! (I can't wait to NOT have to write essays for english anymore...)

I still have some days where it just looks bleak, but I go home and play some video games or go work on one of my engineering projects and the feeling will pass.
If anything still lingers from that, it would be by rather pessimistic attitude about humanity (sometimes way past cynical...), which is partly why I still tend to not "socialize" as my dad calls it (when I am forced to do something).

Anyways, I think the best remedy is not doctors, not drugs, just something you love.

sorry to hear of your misfortune. unfortunately this scenario isn't all that uncommon. anti-depressants are highly addictive and after taking them for awhile many people can't live a normal life without them. luckily i've never been able to rely on them since they leave me completely unaware of my surroundings.

my depression isn't really triggered by stress i work in very stressful situations as a rescue diver and it doesn't effect me. i just randomly fall into depression. luckily i have macie and all of her support in those times and she keeps me going.

Not easy getting an Aussie bloke to talk about. I find it a bit different here.

I still don't feel easy doing this. No medication for me ta doc.!! stuff the drugs.

My home brew helps but there are times i get the panic attacks which i can't get out of
till another longneck. and another......

no advice i can give. different strokes for different folks.

Young people I think are the people that need the most support.
That would feed into future generations.??

Strewth, can't believe i just posted this.

OLD!!! does the job i need.
i did in the past drink a lot because of my depression but for me it made it worse and more frequent, now i rarely drink and never more than one or two. for me the best thing to do when it strikes is to drag macie outside and sit on the deck watching the ocean waves roll in, it relaxes me.
