What do you clean a monitor with?

Ok look I really dont no if it's a LCD monitor it's a flat screen DELL but its getting very dirty lately I dont no what to clean it with and what to wipe it down with. I do have a Microfiber rag but things stupid got a 10 pack and regardless if you get them wet the fuzzes come off of it

What I'm asking is what liquid do i use and what type of towel do i dry it with? I've been using rubbing alcohol.

Also if i look close to my screen sometimes i see little screeches of lines before i didnt see this. Is my monitor breaking?

While somebody thinks of answer I'll take a pictures of the monitor

Yes it is an lcd screen.

I use baby wipes to clean my screen and the surrounding area then dry cloth to dry the remaining residue.

Comes up sparkling and like new.

I make sure that I do not touch my monitor to avoid finger prints. Once every other week, compressed air, a piece of old unershirt and very lightly pushing the dust to the side, then with vertical moves remove the dust. I make sure to barely touch the screen when removing the dust. I hold the cloth so just portion extends past my hand then really, ExTRA GENTLY wipe. Its just dust.

Incidentally, with todays, material that are used for eyeglasses, it is suggested that you use something like piec from an old undershirt and water to clean the lens

Here are some tips:

1.Avoid using paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, or something like your shirt to wipe the LCD screen. These non-ultrasoft materials can easily scratch the screen. The microfiber cloth is a good choice.

2.Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, ethyl alcohol, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride. These chemicals can react with the materials that the LCD screen is made of which could yellow the screen or cause other kinds of damage. Use water or a vinegar-water mix.

3.Never spray liquid directly on the LCD screen or it could run inside the monitor and cause damage.

I'm gonna try baby wipes but can it be used on the outside to like the black and what type of dry cloth?

Old school, old habits: I keep a solution of about one third vinegar, two thirds distilled water in a spray bottle. I'll spray the solution to normal cotton cloth (not directly to screen!) and wipe the display.

I keep a bottle at work and nearly my entire office uses my home-brew solution for their monitors, laptops, keyboards and mice.

At home, I use this solution to clean
1). Computers
2). glasses
3). plasma screen
4). getting fingerprints off cd's and DVD's that my kids have pulled out of cases.

I used a baby wipe, but what Ive noticed regardless of what i clean it with when the screen is still black you look close you can see dry marks of what you used to wipe it with, is it supposed to do that?

Even at that dilution, isn't the alcohol going to do some damage? I can imagine that solution would do less than without adding the water, but I got the impression that there is a chemical reaction involved.

EDIT: I just noticed that you didn't include an LCD in your list of uses, but the question still applies to using it on CD/DVD disks.

Here is another idea for anyone that is innovative...produce a tape that can be used as a seal at the bottom of the screen, so that a person can spray a good soak directly on the screen, and then remove the tape afterward, without it leaving any residue behind.

EDIT: It seems like some manufacturer would produce a monitor that already has a waterproof seal around the screen.

Thats where the dry cloth comes in, just as it begins to dry

No damage that i have ever seen and I have been using this for years. And yes, I do clean LCD monitors and laptop LCD's using this method.

Hot soapy water and a dish cloth, and I use a tea towel to wipe it dry after, and do it about once a fortnight.
