Hi Brian,

Sorry no one got to this first... maybe someone will see it now that I've bumped it.

Newegg's got over 300 reviews on that mobo: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Cheers,

Nice! Are you replacing your current board or building a new rig altogether?

Building a new rig. I currently have a laptop with great specs at a great price. But this one will be my custom build pc.

For a new build, I would look for one that has USB3. Else it is a nice board.

On the Newegg link it only says 8xUSB2. You better double check that - maybe at the manufacturers site.

Here is the main webpage for the GA-X58-UD3R (rev 1.0) motherboard, and it does support the USB 3.0 standard. :)

GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview

I was right. Thanks for the research. I even went to frys for a project for my school to build a custom build pc for under $1500 (virtually). But when i first saw it, it has dual bios, 8x 3.0 usb, ifirewire 3.0, sata works 3x faster with low power (saving green), AND it supports SLi. I can make this into a gaming pc with dual graphics cards by Nvidia AND/OR AMD Radeon.

It supports upto 3 graphics cards, so that you can utilise tri-SLI or tri-XFire. For best stability with this, you should ideally use identical cards. Don't mix ATI and NVidia. Make sure that your PSU has plenty of capacity should you go as far as using 3 cards. I would recommend a 1KW (or greater) unit. In fact, I would recommend a unit of that rating, even if you are only planning on using a single card at the moment. That way, you will have enough capacity in reserve for when you decide to upgrade.

Oops. Sorry, my bad. :o

The link I supplied was for the X58A version. It's still worth bearing this board in mind, though.

Here is a link for the board you are thinking of. GA-EX58-UD3R (rev. 1.7) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview

You are correct in saying that it only supports 2 graphics cards. It doesn't, however, support the USB 3.0 standard. For that, you will require the X58A version which I linked to in my earlier post.

In your opinon, which do you prefer, the one you posted a link of or the one i posted?

I think this motherboard was the one i was actually looking at in Fry's Electronics because i remember seeing alot of 3 this and 3 that. And it is around the same price so i will go for this one instead of the mistaken motherboard i thought earlier.

If they are around the same price, I might be inclined to go for the X58A model, as that has got more upgrade potential. Just because that model supports 3 graphics cards doesn't necessarily mean that you need to use 3. You can use just 1 and upgrade when funds allow.
