[Win7 Ultimate x64] Sharing / HDD Reading/Writing Prob

Hey guys, I'm getting really frustrated and can't figure out what's wrong...

I have 4 HDD's, 1 is for my OS and the other 3 are data drives. When I used a program to write a file to my E: and F: data HDD I have no problem. But for some reason when I try to write to my G: HDD I get errors. All the settings are the same for the 3 data HDD's. All 3 HDD's are also being shared. But for some reason I can only read files from my G: HDD and not the E: or F:. Once again all the share settings are the same for the 3 HDD's. I guessing these problems are tied together somehow.

Are your hard drives set to slave? The hdd with the hard drive should be set to master and the others set to slave. And what exactly do you mean when you say "Write a file"?
Are you putting in files like music, videos, pictures, documents, and programs?
Also try disabling your share options. If all of your hard drives are installed in your desktop, why have them shared?

Did you try taking ownership of G: ?

I ran into this when upgrading from XP... I had to take ownership of all my data before networking would work properly.

Well they're SATA and in my P6X59D BIO's there is no "master" "slave". You just set the drives to 1, 2, 3, 4.

So pretty much, your bios automatically sets your hard drive in sequential order. Nice.
And since you said you get an error, can you tell me exactly what error it says?

Right click the drive in Computer... select Properties, then Security, then Advanced, then Owner, then Edit... Click your account name or Administrators, check the "Replace owner...." checkbox and then ok your way out...

And since you said you get an error, can you tell me exactly what error it says?

All depends on the program I'm using. They say either, "access path error", "create file error", "save file error", etc...

Right click the drive in Computer... select Properties, then Security, then Advanced, then Owner, then Edit... Click your account name or Administrators, check the "Replace owner...." checkbox and then ok your way out...

The E: and F: were set to "SYSTEM" and G: was set to "Administrators". I check the "Replace owner..." box and click apply. It makes the changes and then unchecks the box again. I'm assuming it's suppose to do this. I changed them all to "Administrators" and I'm still having the same problem.

Wow... that sucks.

I noticed you are logged in as "administrator"... Do you have a separate user account, under your name perhaps? Logging in as Admin has some advantages but "Administrator" can't own anything, disk space is for users....

If you don't have one, create an account under your name with administrative priveledges... Log into that, then go back to the ownership page and take ownership of all but your C: disk, under that name... See if that works....

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. I am logged in as my user name and it's in the administrators group. I'm not logged in and the actual administrator.

I gave up and rebuilt my XP computer and stuck the drives back in it and there all working perfect. I'm just using the XP machine as a server.

Something else that was strange... I uninstalled a program and it gave me an error saying that only administrators can until programs. But I'm logged in with Admin rights. I clicked uninstall again and it work. Win7 is wack!!!!
