I was able to install the driver I needed to install on 7, because it was an unsigned driver that I desperately needed for a class.

Good job. How is performance overall? You can Generate A System Health Report and troubleshoot in the Performance-Diagnostics logs by clicking through your WEI score at Control Panel>System and using Advanced Tools.
