How to build a .REG to optimize W7 ?

Hello,
After installing a fresh Windows 7, I would optimize it doing the steps of those guides:

Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!! (17 steps)
Master Tutorial to Make Your Windows 7 Super Fast - Tweaking with Vishal (7 steps)

Instead of doing this manually, I would use a .REG (and/or .BAT) file.
So, for those steps below:

1. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7.
2. Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7.
3. Disable all Visual Effects (Sys. Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Visual Effects)
4. Disable the User account control (UAC).
5. Disable the Windows 7 Sidebar.
6. Disable the Aero Peek and Aero Snap features in Windows 7.
7. Change the Power Plan To Maximum Performance.
8. Disable the Thumbnail Preview Feature.
9. Disable all System Sounds (run > mmsys.cpl).

Question A.
What are the Windows 7 registry branches storing those settings?

Question B.
Which Windows 7 registry tool can help me to localize those branches?
Comparing the registry before and after manually doing one of those step.

This might sound nasty but this is one question I hope doesn't get answered.

Messing in the registry, unless you know exactly what you are doing is a really great way to totally screw up a system.

You might be able to do this just fine --or it sounds that way at least-- but someone reading the answers who decides to try this on their own just might end up tinkering the thing to death...

Try the "Ultimate Windows Tweaker" for Win7... it does what you're asking about and more... but it does it safely.

Unless you have a awful graphics card, turning off Aero is in fact the best way to reduce performance. Aero runs on the GPU everything else runs on the CPU. On another note, there is no performance gain with any of the above tweaks.

If you have such a low end system that Win 7 would run better with those things disabled, then you need to upgrade and stick with XP till you can.

If you have a fast system that handles Win 7 with no problems,, you will gain absolutely Zero performance from tweaking 7. There is no real need to tweak 7 for performance.

However, there are cosmetic tweaks that can be done. But they are in no way linked to performance.


The days of old tweaking XP, do not carry over to 7. There is no need.

Oh there are some pretty good Win7 tweaks as well... Extra worker threads, TCPIP optimizations and others that do bring tangeable improvements.

However, most of what the OP is asking about is readily available and far more safely adjusted through desktop settings.
