It will also automatically turn off if you turn Aero off or turn of Visual Effects. Not sure if you are interested, but if you want to revert to the XP style of things, read this:

Sorry CommonTater, I think you are confusing the thumbnail previews with Aero Peek, which is the Show Desktop button in the lower-right corner.

Easy mistake to make; I have made it myself on more than one occasion.

Ok... sorry about that...

I may have the wrong checkbox but I do recall experimentally turning off the pop up previews from that dialog, somehow... (In my own defense, it's been a totally crazy month for me....)
