Can i apply a specific view mode for each folder?

Hey guys, im new here and wasnt quite sure where to post this question. Hope it's not the wrong section. Anyways, is there a way that i can change the view settings to folders in a folder? For ex. I have my Music folder, and i have my music organized by genre. I want those folders to be in Larg Icons mode, and the files(music) in them to be seen with List view. But everytime I change a folders view settings, it applies it to all my music library. Please help...

@derek: That tutorial won't help him because he wants the parent folder to act differently than the internal folders. In other words he has to set the parent folder to a different template first and apply it to all subfolders. Then he has to change it back to another template without applying that view to all subfolders.

This may seem counter-intuitive at first but it will work if you do it correctly:

1. Set Your Main Music Folder and All Subfolders to the General Items template.

Right Click My Music Folder > Properties > Customize > Select General Items in drop-down and make sure to apply to all subfolders > OK​

2. Change to details view.

Open My Music Folder > Change the view options to details view.​

3. Apply to All Folders Using General Items Template.

Go to Organize > Folder & Search Options > View > Apply to All Folders​

4. Change My Music back to Music template w/out applying to subfolders

Go Back up one directory (User Folder) > Right Click My Music > Properties > Customize > Change to Music Template (DO NOT APPLY TO SUBFOLDERS)​

5. Set view settings.

Open My Music Folder > Change to Icon View, etc.​

6. If you'd like all folders that use the Music template to use the Icon view, then follow step 3 again.

Following that tutorial will cause your internal music folders and all folders using the General Items template to use the details view while the parent folder, My Music, will be using the Music Template and Icon view.

Wo0w thnx so much for the quick reply. It sounds like this could work. I´ll give it a try after work. I can´t believe Windows doesn´t have this as a "normal" settings option. It´s so easy on a Mac and so necessary. Thank you again for the quick reply and the detailed explanation.

I tried following your instructions but my "Apply to all Folders" option can't be applied. It's simply not click-able I don't know why but no matter what options i move around it doesn't give me that option. Do you have any other suggestions???

Hey bro i just found out what was going on. It seems that you can't change the templates the way you specify in the Library folder. You would have to go directly to the "My Pictures" folder. Actually if I go to My pictures folder instead of my library folders each folder saves it's own template automatically(which is what i wanted in the first place). But it's do dumb that it can't be applied to the library folders... oh well.
