Formatted to clean drive + security questions

Hi Everyone just have a quick couple of questions.

I had Windows 7 installed over my old Vista OS as an upgrade. I had some issues with my browser as well as trojan/keylog warnings. I was told that the only way to be sure the computer was virus free would be to reinstall windows7.

I put the Windows 7 upgrade disk in and booted it. Clicked on format partition (which only took about 5 seconds) ... then decided to delete the partition. Clicked on new partition and 2 were created. Partion 0 which has 100mb and 100mb free, and Partition 1 which had 400gb and 399.98gb free. Then I proceeded to install windows 7 onto partition 1.

Is this sufficient in fully cleaning the computer?

Finally, in terms of firewalls/antivirus, is windows 7 firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials sufficient or is there anything else recommended that would be better?

1- I am slightly concerned about how much time the format took
2-MSE is fine in combination with win 7 firewall.

The 100Mb partition is for a bunch of thiings and shouldnt be deleted.

If you already have win 7 installed I would at least run a ful MSE on it

I am not concerned about the time it took - it takes roughly the same amount of time on my machine when I formatted *my* 500 GB HD - it didn't actually perform a destructive format, it just wiped the MFT, as I understand it.

Later, when I deleted the partitions to make new ones, the format was a bit longer for the 60 GB partition and a lot longer for the 405 GB partition.

I installed Malwarebytes as well as MSE and have both running simultaneously along with windows firewall.
Would adding Winpatrol 2010 to the mix be fine and have all 3 running with no trouble? Will it cause any issues to performance or any problems?

I have a core2quad system with 4gb of ram
