AC 97 audio not working...Help pease.

Hi everybody!

I installed windows 7 in my relatively old desktop. Everything is working fine even USB audio but my headphone and microphone not working. Windows downloaded ac97 by itself but that is also not working. there is a cross on speaker in system tray. I tried to install various ac 97 drivers but windows are not accepting that saying not signed.

I shall be much thankful for help.

Have you gone to toshiba and installed their driver?

The problem is in my desktop not laptop...Probably you have seen my system specs which I have mentioned in profile.

From the looks of things you are trying to install a Realtek driver for a C-Media audio device. That in itself presents a problem as C-Media has dropped all support for their older audio chips, but not a total loss.

First uninstall the Realtek driver then go here,

ECS Web Site

and download the XP driver for it. Next follow theses steps to install it,

1. Download that file, extract it to it's own folder.
2. Then go to the Device Manager.
3. Extend the 'Sound, video and game controllers' category.
4. Find your sound card, mine said something generic like High Definition Audio Device.
5. Right click and select 'Update driver software...".
6. Choose 'Browse my computer for driver software' option and navigate to the extracted .zip folder. Click Next and install.

Amillion thanks to zigzag and stormy for coming to my help.

Actually I tried every possible driver I found on net but of no use. Then I remembered the CD I got with my desktop. I found the AC 97 driver there and installed that. It is an old driver of 2003. Everything is OK now.

I am indeed thankful to anybody who help me in any way.
