I think most would agree that we need more information. For example, what are you planning on doing with the laptop/desktop? Also, do you want a large screen, or a small screen...does it have to be very light or can it be heavier as you won't move it much...is battery life important or more important to you than overall performance????

HP G62 144DX. Nothing comes close, $599, got it at best buy. Only problem, it was out for a month then yanked from shelves "everywhere". I fear they realize it's worth far more money than they're charging, and they're going to re-release it under another name for $700+.

If you can find one, grab it!

i330m 2.13Ghz X2 with HyperThreading (4 logical cores)
4GB DDR3 1333 Ram
500GB 7,200 RPM HDD!!!
HD Display, 720
Intel HD Display
Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Well here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...ry&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=4150156&lang=en

And much more...

I own one, if you would like a video or some detail just ask me, I'm on it now, but I can boot up one of my other systems and give you a preview "they" won't give.
It's nice, it can actually game, no joke! Some games throw a fit tho, otherwise, the i3 330m is superb, the i5 is certainly not necessary, no way, hell no.

The battery life is incredible, the Cpu is 32nm!! I dunno what they did, but the screen is extra special, I leave it on the second highest brightness setting at all times, even on battery, and it's sick bright, outside on campus, in sunlight, "perfect", no issues. Also, I can watch two full movies, at this brightness, on battery, with 18% batt life left, well that's what it was last time, watched 2012 and Avatar...

Peace

It scored 13 seconds in SuperPI @ 1Million decimals, 'nough said, that's faster than "all" previous Intel quad core cpu's!

The 3D power comes from the Cpu, games don't look great, obviously, but it has the power, and hyper-threading for well threaded applications, such as those he will be using.

Sacrifices with the 144DX are these, no real gaming Gpu, the Intel is good, but not designed for gaming, but it will game. Also, no blu-ray, there is a model identical which has it, but it's $100 more. IMO, no way, this can be upgraded down the road, but if willing to pay that for such a thing, well there's that option. Again these are very hard to find, sadly.

Peace

If you want a desktop replacement type of laptop, big FHD (1920 x 1080) screen, good nvidia discrete graphics (1 GB video ram), i7 quad core CPU power (8 logical cores) for under $1,000. Check out the HP DV8 from HP Direct. There is a $300 off coupon plus a $200 instant rebate going right now that brings these down to about $950 including 18.4 inch awesome FHD screen, 500 GB 7200 rpm drive, 4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz ram, DVD RW optical drive. Wireless GN. Pretty awesome power for the money.

Drawbacks are they are big, on the heavy side and have very poor battery life. But they are powerful and awesome for entertainment, including gaming.

Alright, 2 things:
1. Sounds like you should have visited your friend Google before asking here, as most of these have been readily discussed, considered, and reviewed.
2. You are not clear on what you want. You want a Laptop that can run CAD software well, but also want to know the same for a desktop, and you want US to find you the computer, at about $650.

Let me give you my answer to your problems:
Google (or Bing, or whatever) some of your questions, do some of your OWN research. Learn about the Processors, learn about CAD and it requirements. Decide if you want a laptop, desktop, or both. Pick out some computers that you think fit your description and post them here for consideration.

DO NOT JUST ASK US TO DO IT FOR YOU

If he googles, perhaps he won't need to return here?
He probably wanted answers from a site which he has used regularly and trusts. A google could well lead him back her anyway.
Better would be if Scorpio had done a quick search on the site for any other threads on this very popular item.

I agree.
My point was there he came here and said:
Here is what I want to know, tell me.

Without doing any research on his own first, that is just rude.
