Ripping High quality music from cds? Which program?

I rip my "regular" cds using iTunes, I rip my "special" cds using EAC. The difference is minimal, but noticeable in higher end audio equipment. As far as GUI concerned, I don't think it's something you'd be worried... hint: rip as wav first, then transcode to whatever your preferred format.

Believe it or not, even though it hasn't been updated in a bit, this app works in Windows7:

Audiograbber, free CD ripper, mp3 encoder and audio recorder for Windows

The UI is a bit quirky, but if you have a .wma player this will rip CDs to .wav, then you can convert tracks to .wma. I can't detect any difference between .wma @192 and .mp3 @320 except the .wma file is smaller. Great for sticking a lot of tunes on a CD for your car stereo.

I'd be interested in knowing if there is any difference between the 2.

informative article. To bad iTunes doesn't support many of those formats.

anybody got a suggestion for a media player?
I tried media monkey. Disgusting interface not to mention the third party plugins rarely work.
Doubletwist didn't support my iPhone which was a bummer cause at least they had a decent interface even if it was ripping off of iTunes.

Exact audio copy is what I use. And it's not command line only. There is a guide online for setting up exact audio copy that I have used with very good results.

Generally a music rip may be of two types - lossless and lossy . The common lossless formats for windows are wav and flac , another popular format is apple lossless code. Among them, we may use wav format to rip (it will rip the exact) and if we want something lossy to shrink size, most popular format is mp3.

You don't "rip" CD to CD, you "copy" CD to CD...:sarc:

From CD to CD ... it is copying, not ripping. Through copying you will get a duplicate of the original, and surely no question of data loss arises.

In case of copying, just take care of your true copy, dont let the disk to get a scratch , and insert it everytime you want to listen it ... thats all
