Hi all,

On my computer at work I have an internet connection that works perfectly. I want to add an outgoing VPN connection.

Whenever I click on "Setup a new connection or network" or "Connect to a network" under Network and Sharing, nothing happens.

Is it possible that some necessary service is turned off? I built the machine myself and installed all the software on it so it's not a question of anything being "locked down" by IT.

Thanks for any help you can provide with this!

After you highlight those options you need to click on "next" lower right in order to set them up.

If you are still having problems try running the sfc /scannow command at the command prompt to see if any files are missing or corrupted.

"After you highlight those options you need to click on 'next' "...

In my original message I stated that when I clicked on either of the two options for setting up a new network, nothing happened. I really meant nothing. No new dialog boxes, no new options, nothing at all. I may as well have not clicked on them at all. Clicking multiple times produced the same result, more nothing.

But I will try running the sfc scan and report the result. Thank you.

Success! The sfc scan corrected errors and I can now access the functionality required to setup my VPN.

Thank you!

As to the errors that were corrected, I cannot look at the log created by the sfc program because when I try to open the file I'm given an Access Denied message.

Oh good because I was running out of reasons why that problem would occur.

It may help to right click and open or run as Admin to see the log file.

Good luck setting up the VPN.
