How To Lan Windows 7 Laptops To Play Multiplayer Games?

i have 2 laptops running windows 7,
one is a dell and one is a lenovo.
my friend and i have been trying to connect them to play LAN multi-player games.
please advise on how to connected them to create a LAN!
also is it possible to network windows 7 and xp or vista?
i also have a pronet switch, using that how can i connect more than 2 laptops?
im a newbie to this stuff.please help.

I think you will both need to be connected to a router and on the same network, or use a hub to connect to each other,

I am not sure. If you have a hub, look up the network details for it from the manufacturer.

Setting a LAN or Home Network is always the same as the usual Network. Even you have different OS's on each one of them.

In our home, I have Windows 7 on SONY Vaio Laptop, My eldest son using Windows Vista on his ACER LT, my 3rd son has an Acer Netbook, my youngest son on a desktop running in Windows XP (and we have another desktop with Windows 7 not to mention our 2 PSP).

I bought a Linksys WiFi Router with a four LAN slot connected. We maximized the connection without any problem at all browsing the internet even its provided for a single connection only, we also use it playing MMORPG online games and we're playing LAN games including COD4 and I am the server / player.
