ntdlr is missing, stupid me messed up using easybcd now what?

solved... I took the hard drive and mounted it in a dock in a different system. Using EASY BCD and copying a random BCD file I had it reinstall the BCD, recreate the entries, which did not work, however having easybcd run diagnostics and recover and fix the MBR a few times along with rewriting each entry and crossing my fingers when I installed it back in my main system it booted fine.

I was using easybcd to alter the bcd of another computer, long story short I think I told it to uninstall the vista bootloader before loading the bcd of the other drive I was working on.

the first installed software is Vista home premium, which I'm dual booting with win7 x64. When I try to boot I get the "NTDLR is missing" message.

Is the one of the situations where I would use diskpart while at command prompt to do something?

I cant get repair to work.

theog beat me, exactly what I did to retrieve both my Vista and Ubuntu and it worked well.

by saying I need to run it 3-4 times does that mean it's normal if sometimes it says it is unable to repair the problem?

the screen where it asks you which installation you would like to repair doesn't show any installations for me, even though both win7 and vista are installed on regular platter drives.

I take it that you still have both HD installed.

If you have removed one, that may be the one with all boot files on, if so Startup repair will not work.

both are partitions of the same physical drive. Vista was installed first.

I cant seem to load the correct drivers, or they're not working. I got the original gigabyte DVD out and copied every driver file I could find for gigabyte and marvell and still cant get it to recognize an installation.

I'm using an x58a-ud5 rev 1.0 MOBO if anyone can direct me to which driver to install. Midway through one of the drivers, well actually a couple, a popup saying it has found problems with windows starting up will come up then an error message saying something along the lines of failed to change startup.

At this point whichever OS you start up will likely cut the other one out of the Dual Boot, but it can be added back using EasyBCD 2.0 beta.

You can boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD, copy down what the labeling now on all partitions and post back.

What I would do is mark Win7 active using PW, boot into the WIn7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 times with reboots, when it starts install EasyBCD 2.0 to Add Vista to Dual Boot Menu.

You can do the same with Vista using its DVD Repair console/Repair CD , but it needs to be marked Active first with PW CD. Best to post back the details shown on PW drive map so we can give you the exact steps.

I marked the windows 7 partition as active, however it still is not showing the installation, and when it says ''windows found problems with your computer's startup options Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer?" I click Repair and Restart but there are still ''failed to save startup options''

Is there a generic sata driver I can use to get the installation to show up in system recover options?

Looks like you have delete the first partition with all boot files.

As Startup repair is finding a HD, no need for sata drivers.

No, it is already been deleted.

That disk was just a music media drive, and I really dont know how it got wiped clean but apparently it did

I made that CD and have changed windows 7 to primary/active. I cant get windows recovery to let me use system repair, it keeps saying it cant save the startup options
