My PC doesn't stay in Sleep Mode

Under XP I enjoyed using the sleep mode. I'm not sure if that's the correct translation, in my German windows it's called "Ruhezustand".
The PC was off (more or less) and didn't consume much energy, and I could easily wake it up and had all the software and all the files open, just as I had left it.

It seems that Win 7 has a similar function but it doesn't work. When I click it, the PC shuts down, stays off for about 2 seconds, and then it restarts by itself, without me touching anything.

Somebody told me it could be the network adapter, so I disabled the option that it could wake up the PC, but that didn't help either.

Any suggestions please?

There can be many things that can cause a PC to resume from sleep/standby. Take a look at your event viewer to see if it provides any help. Go to start Orb, type event, the event viewer should be the first choice already highlighted so hit enter to open. Once opened, expand on "Windows Logs" and check under "Application" and "System". Keep notice of the time your PC is put to sleep and when it wakes and check those times against whats listed in the two locations.

Hope that helps, let us know.

To find out what woke up your Windows from sleep:

Start> Type CMD in search box> Click on CMD.exe in results above> Type in:

powercfg –lastwake

Enter

1.jpg

To get the more detailed info on the device that wakes your Windows up during the sleep, and the most likely suspect, type:

powercfg –devicequery wake_armed

Enter

2.jpg

If the PC was last awoken by itself, this will be you culprit

Nice, Thnx for the post, I will certainly remember this and save your post. Hope it helps the OP as it sounds like just thing to at least find the app/program/service doing the resuming, then its just solving out why. But for sure a truly helpful post. ;)

Heloo,esha.:)

I had the same problems. It seems that mice and keyboards tend to "twitch" once in a while-causing a wake up.

It was very frustrating to me as well.A simple unticking onder the mouse Power Management fixed this for me and now that I solved this issue,I don't even use sleep mode anymore.HA!:p
