3rd party sync software for Windows 7 64 bit with Outlook 2010 64 bit?

Well, I discovered the bad news that Windows Mobile Device Center doesn't work with Outlook 2010 if installed as 64 bit. Microsoft says to "fix" this by uninstalling Office 2010 and installing the 32 bit version! Ha! They have no plans for a real fix.

My question is are there any 3rd-party sync programs that will work with Windows 7 64 bit and Microsoft Office Outlook 64 bit and Windows Mobile 6.5 devices? I don't need to sync email but I do need to sync calendar, contacts, and tasks. And yes, I am aware that the iphone will sync with it! Silly Microsoft. I have 1.5 years left on my mobile contract with my Windows Mobile 6.5 phone, so I am stuck for now.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any 3rd party apps.

In the case that none exist, nor will MS ever get around to releasing a fix - is it possible for you to uninstall the x64 version and just install the x32 version?

Sure, I can go back to Windows 98 too, but I won't. Pointless to have a 64 bit operating system with 32 bit apps.

So far I did find one workaround. It's not pretty, but this setup does work. I'd still like some replies with direct sync between Outlook 2010 64 bit and the phone without going through Google, if such a thing exists.

It's a two-step approach. Sync Outlook 2010 64 bit with Google, then sync Google with the phone. The bad news is you can't sync by plugging in the phone to the desktop as that will erase contacts and calendar entries. The good news is once setup, you no longer need to do a wired manual sync - both steps happen over the net automatically.

To get the Google-to-phone sync working:

To get the Outlook 2010 64 bit to Google sync working, you need gsyncit for $15:

You need this because Google Sync does not support Outlook 2010.

Note: when configuring gsyncit in Outlook, be sure to set contacts to store in the My Contacts folder of gmail or they won't sync with the phone. Also, be sure to set a date range for the calendar or it will sync all your old events. The phone defaults to two weeks old, but gsyncit defaults to all past events.

Well, my workaround is not quite adequate. Every time I sync it switches all contacts back to being listed as lastname, firstname. Strange considering Google lists them correctly as firstname lastname. I guess I am stuck with this until:

1. Someone writes a replacement for Windows Mobile Device Center on Windows 7 64 bit.
2. Someone writes a replacement for ActiveSync on Windows Mobile 6.5.
3. Microsoft fixes WMDC to work with 64 bit Outlook.
4. Someone figures out how to default WinMo 6.5 contacts to firstname lastname.
5. My contract is up and I switch to Android.

I guess in that sense my problem will be solved in March of 2012 when I switch to Android...

Workaround #27b seems to be doing ok. Instead of using Google to sync with Google, I am using a third party sync:

The fact that this works proves the file-as problem is caused by Google. So far this setup is working ok, but I still prefer a direct sync (desktop to phone) if I can find one...

First of all, sorry for bumping this old, old thread. I'm still using a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone but my new phone comes tomorrow. I thought I'd provide an update.

Rather than spend $15 for 3rd party software, I found a way to do this for free:

1. Sync with Gmail Contacts (See quoted text for link)
2. Export your Gmail Contacts to CSV
3. Import your Contacts to Outlook

Works on Outlook 2010 x64. To be honest, I didn't even use the tutorial on how to import contacts into Outlook. I've kind of done it before between Excel and Outlook and just guessed. the link I provided, I just Googled it as an example.
