BIOS UPDATE with ISO File

Hi there you all!

I just want to know which would be the most effectie and secure way to update my BIOS.

I registered my motherboard to xfxforce.com and at the download section I could find 2 Bios files, one is a BIN file and the other is an ISO file.
They don't explain anywhere how the installation is done.

When I go to amibios.com (The Bios that my mobo uses) it says to download AMIFLASH (which contains utilitites such as AFUDOS and AFUWIN).
They explain how to use this in conjuction with command prompt but they never mention BIN or ISO files.

I just want to be able to make a succesful update to my BIOS since my computer's been acting kind of weird and my technician told me that a BIOS update could solve the problem.

I have no 1.44mb floppy disc...

Download the ISO file and create a CD with the ISO file. Then boot the CD, it should automatically flash your BIOS or ask you a few questions and then flash your BIOS.

Many computers do not come with floppy drives now-a-days. The BIN files are for booting off a floppy and then using the flash software to update the BIOS. Many motherboard vendors now use ISO files or a special “Windows all-in-one Application” to flash the BIOS.

Yes you can mess up your system if you don't know what you are doing. You need to pick the correct BIOS update for your motherboard. If you are not having any problems it is best to NOT flash your motherboard.

I guess the BIOS I downloaded is the correct because I registered my motherboard at xfxforce.com with the Product Code.

I am going to proceed with the Bios updating now.

Hey how r you doing?
I did exactly what you told me....but when booting from dvd disc, the black screen was saying that my cd drive could not be found, then after several automatic retries it said something like there is a corrupt file or something, then it automatically retried again and it seems that the proccess ended up correctly, but now i am stuck with the back screen and this:R:\>

I typed exit but it sayd bad command or file name,
what should I write here??
Is everything ok since I saw all of those messages??

Make sure you get your bios directly from the manufacturer of your board.

Also, How did you burn the ISO to disc?


You need to use something like IMGBURN and choose the burn IMG to CD option

OR ....

You can extract the contents of the ISO and copy all of the files you extracted to a disc.

IMGBURN or NEro BurningROM will be the easiest.

I am now stuck with the black screen wating me to write something after: R:\>

Everything was too fast for me to remember the error that it gave me, it said something like there was a corrupted file and that my cd rom was not being detected.

After that it automatically kept retrying until it succesfully did the flashing.
What should I do now, what is the command I should write here: R:\>

I agree with Wishmaster what issue are we trying to fix? I hate to put a bunch of time into getting everything worked out when 1) There is no need to update the BIOS. 2) After we get it working you find that the BIOS on the CD is the same as you already have. 3) You do flash your BIOS and then find out you have a new problem with your system. 4) You do flash your BIOS but damage your motherboard and now your machine does not work at all.

Thank you all, by now everything is fine...Updated the Bios succesfully..
The problem I was having sometimes was not being able to boot.
Maybe something to do with the firewire ports.
Tomorrow I am inserting my Firewire card again ( it is in repair) to see if the booting problem is going to reappear.

Ye there are different methods after a fashion..Aside from a power interruption while flashing your BIOS using a CD,Flash Drive or Floppy its practically foolproof
If you were to flash it online using the appropriate utility ypu increase risk because you could lose your connection.
ANY INTERRUPTION DURING THE FLASH PROCESS WILL RENDER YOUR MOBO DEAD.
I don't know what amibios uses with the 2 methods you mention. never used a board with that bios.
Seems a bit odd the process isn't in your Mobo manual though. :sarc:

Thanks for the info...I already did my Bios flashing.
I burned the iso image to a dvd disc with POWER ISO, and then just simply booted from the disc. While it was a little bit odd process, everything took place automatically and after several error messages, the flashing went fine, (by now).

Hey, I am having a similar problem with amoretam.

I tried updating the BIOS to version 1.4 (have the same mobo as him; XFX 750i Intel SLI). However during the installation I got:

CD ROM Device Driver for IDE (4 Channel support)
Driver Version: V340
Device Name: XFX 001

Error: Unable to detect ATAPI IDE CD-Rom drive

And it produced this list:

PRIMARY Master
PRIMARY Slave
SECONDARY Master
SECONDARY Slave

Is it mandatory to have an IDE cdrom driver? I only have a SATA one...

Additionally I have noticed that after this failed attempt at updating the BIOS, I get 1 second freezes every 5 seconds while I am in BIOS. Another problem is that after shutting down from Windows, the computer disconnects the monitor, keyboard, but it still stays on. I have to manually hold the power button to turn it off. :S

Can anyone help me out?

Uff man , i'm so sorry you are going though this, this mobo is a pain, at least for me and most of tiger direct reviews I've read.

I have one year with this mobo and my system has never been stable.

I had to change my sata dvd drive to an old IDE one I found in order to fix a booting problem I was having, but nothing.
But I think thie BIOS update could be completed succesfully.

I did it because I read this mobo has problems with SATA dvd drive, somehow, don't know why.

I hope that helps, let me know anything else, maybe I could have some info you don't have after all I've had to deal with this mobo....
