I want Aero peek to be instant. I tried this: How to Adjust “Aero Peek” Desktop Preview Delay Time in Windows 7 - Tweaking with Vishal

but it didn't work. I tried "0" decimal for instant Aero peek, didn't work. Then I tried "4000" for 4 seconds, still didn't work. Restarted after each change. Spelled the dword correctly. Double-checked the right location.

I might instead want to Never Combine Icons, but hide labels (which is impossible without editing the registry), but I can't do that either. I tried this but to no effect.

The interface is starting to piss me off. Can help you help me with these other things too?
1. Windows maximize/minimize time, I don't want a delay.

2. Double-clicking a minimized app in the taskbar doesn't maximize, then minimize. There's a delay before you can minimize it again. I don't want that delay! If I double-click a minimized app, I want it to maximize, then minimize really quick like XP! If I only meant to click it once, it's my own damn fault! Ya feel me? :P If you didn't understand that, re-read it a few times.

3. I want to pin my Downloads folder (in the user files folder) to the taskbar. Is that possible?

i got the "never combine icons, but hide labels" registry trick to work, but I'd rather instant Aero Peek on mouse-over. Please help me out.

Also, PLEASE someone tell me, can I get rid of these two delays:
1. when you maximize a windows, there's a short delay before you can minimize again.
2. when the roll-out list of recent items for a certain program in the start menu appears, there's a short delay before you can open that program.

**** the Windows 7 interface
. they designed these "stupid-friendly" delays for inexperienced computer users. I have to do a lot of repetitive tasks in windows 7 and these delays are frustrating and unnecessary.

And can someone tell me if it's possible to pin the Downloads folder to the taskbar?

Oh, and I WANT MINIMIZE/MAXIMIZE TO BE INSTANT. Can you help me out with that?

my computer is an overclocked monster! :P There's a short delay, designed to make it look pretty. You know the little animation?

thanks for the link, i looked over that before, but I thought it wasn't possible to pin Downloads, I could be wrong, I'll read it over again.

I noticed that when I looked at your system specs. Overclocking can cause all kinds of undesired results. Please tell me you have one hell of a liquid nitro cooling system.

But yeah, I'm talking about that animation. Also when, you maximize something from the taskbar, there's a short delay before you can minimize it again. Let me know if you know any tweaks for that please.

I want the interface quick and to-the-point, like the older OSes. :P I do a lot of repetitive work for hours in Win 7, these little quirks are annoying to me.

No offense but the last guy that had problems like yours also had his CPU overclocked, and he also claimed to be an expert on overclocking. I told him it was a bad idea but he was sure he knew what he was doing. A week later he came to me again because his CPU was burnt out. I refused to help him ever again.

My brother also over clocked an old Pentium II before. The computer literally caught on fire. Ever since I always advise against it, unless the person plans on using a really good cooling system.

When ever I minimize/maximize something I see no delay. It happens almost instantly. There seems to be less than half a second between when I click the program again to re-minimize/maximize it. You can try cutting off the animations, which might make it seems faster. I'd also undo the changes you made that you described in the OP, that way you can be sure you fixed the issue when the correct change has been made.

I read it and this is what stuck out to me "The bottom line is that if you run a 45nm Core 2 Duo at 4GHz and you need 1.40 volts to be stable, you're going to need a top rated cooler and some good airflow through that cooler to keep the core temperature at a reasonable level so you will be able to maintain stability." This is the mistake I see most people make. If you got that covered, then the best of luck to you. Just thought I'd ask.

Anyways, lets just stick to the main topic. This isn't supposed to be a debate about overclocking.

I think I understand what you mean now. Yes, using the button that is off to the side does have a delay of about one second, but the article you link to is for the preview, sometimes called Glass or peak. It does not work for actually minimizing and maximizing. I also don't know of a way to remove the delay either. The article is interesting however. I might be able to put it to use at some point. It is nice how customizable 7 is, but we can't change everything. This might be something you just have to deal with. Sorry.

Yeah I'm stable bro. 12 hours of prime95 stable. You brought it up to begin with. I have a decent after-market cooler, but not liquid cooling.

But what that guy's saying, is that there's no need to worry about core temperature (because of Intel's thermal throttling) as long as you're stable. And he's talking about something specific in that quote. the entire quote was:

The bottom line is that if you run a 45nm Core 2 Duo at 4GHz and you need 1.40 volts to be stable, you're going to need a top rated cooler and some good airflow through that cooler to keep the core temperature at a reasonable level so you will be able to maintain stability.
Of course, overclocking can lead to shortened CPU life because of electromigration, but that's why I buy cheap CPUs and overclock them. Actually this E2200's been running for about 2 years like this.

Yeah I just have no dotted line thingy to drag. Let me know if you can help.

Here's what I did:
1. created a folder in Downloads
2. created a toolbar of the Downloads folder.

Stuck on step 7, I can't drag it! No dotted line thingy.

Looks like I can't pin Downloads, just a folder in Downloads. :(

I made a shortcut to downloads though, and placed it in a new folder, made a toolbar out of that folder, and got it to work now. :)

If you have a maximized window, then minimize+maximize has no delay. A double-click causes the window to go down, then immediately back up.

If you have a minimized window, then maximize+minimize needs a delay. A double-click only does the first step - maximize. You must do a small pause between the click to minimize again.

I don't believe this is a performance thing. It is definitely done on purpose. Most likely focus testing has found that people try to double-click, then complaining that their minimized applications never show up.

Exactly, let's design the OS for these morons. That's my point. I know it's purposely done; it's a "stupid-friendly" thing for computer-illiterate people.

Same thing with opening the start menu; try double-clicking it.

I'm trying to find a way to lose that delay. I doubt there's a way, but who knows? Also, when the roll-out "recent/frequent" menu for each program in the start menu opens, you can't open that program for a second.

These things just break my flow when I'm working. So used to working with the XP/2000 no-nonsense interface.
