Adober Reader 9.3 won't install

The Adobe downloader thinks the Adober Reader installation was successful, but I can't find the program on my HD and PDFs won't open. Any suggestions re how to install in Win 7 Pro 64 bit or another (free) program.

PDF Readers

Your install problem could be related to permissions in the directory where it is trying to write. Double check permissions. I have two adobe files:
AdbeRd930_en_US.exe
AdbeRdrUpd933_all_incr.msp
The first one is ver 9.3 reader and the second updates to 9.33 They can be found by doing a web search.
I use Nitro it can be found on the web with a nitro pdf reader search.

If you search this form for pdf readers you will find some threads with other options.

Go for Foxit Software - Foxit Reader 3.0 for Windows

Another vote for foxit reader. You will be amazed at how fast your PDF's open and there is no started task using resources in the background.

Sure, there's Sumatra PDF Viewer and Nitro PDF Reader.

When you read up and learn how Adobe Reader is one of the most vulnerable applications you can have installed on your computer, you might want to think of the other options proposed in this thread.

Well; I'd like to say that Adobe Reader 9 has installed and is working fine for me... but I can't! I installed 9.0 a while back, and it seemed to work fine - except pdf's had no association - but since the Reader updater has kicked in with 9.3 notification, my Win7 Pro 64bit system is constantly wanting to install Reader 9.3 but it fails with a "Error 2203.database: C:\Windows\Installer\ae2e0.ipi. Cannot open database file. System error-2147287035" message...

Most annoying is that I've downloaded the latest Foxit - given I'm fed up with Adobe Reader constantly wanting to update and then failing... and lo and behold Foxit won't install because it reckons "there aren't enough Administrator rights when I'm logged in under my Administrator account!! (Logged in under any account by the looks of it...)

It could be Comodo that's being a pain - but I've loaded other software over the past couple of days without failures or hiccups under the same account/s, etc. etc. I've also "taken ownership" C:\ drive and folders - so that isn't it either.

Any ideas on what the issue may be gratefully accepted!

If I work out what the issue is before any tips, insights or illuminated guess work clear up the problem - I'll post how I got around the annoyance.

Right click the installer icon and choose "run as administrator". This should solve your admin rights problem.

I should have mentioned that I 'right-click' "run as Administrator" (as well as "take ownership) as par for the course...

I've got Foxit to install fine by turning off everything in Comodo AV, but Acrobat Reader 9.33 is a no go no matter whether Comodo AV is active or not - regardless of whether I use the Adobe download installer or install from the full download package as well...

Ah... Adobe. They may have taken Quark's mantle in the publishing industry with Indesign - and Photoshop is still the supreme image editor; but, my God!! there's times some of Adobe's corporate paths and implimentations of specific strategies with specific software packages is astoundingly lame at it's best and downright bufoonish at it's worst.

Say what we will about Bill Gates and Micro-floss... Adobe ain't that much better at times!!

At least Foxit works fine!!

I wonder what Foxit's developers will do to turn it into a pile of digital brain strain fodder, like Adobe has with some of it's offerings?!
