Is there REALLY no way to disable the taskbar thumbnail?
I personally do prefer having it disabled.

I do not understand why they would take away freedom ...

If I understand you correctly...

You can alter how your icons are displayed in the taskbar (now called the "Notification Area") by selecting 'Customize' in the ^ next to the clock. Does that help?

now i'm not talking about the notification area.

the taskbar thumbnails are the tabs on the taskbar; for example when you open up google chrome, and you hover over the tab there's always a little preview/thumbnail.

Hello Newly,

Sorry, but as in the other thread, the option to turn off the taskbar thumbnail previews is no longer an option in Windows 7. :(

You could always display the classic theme, that way it will disable thumbnail view. I like it myself and think it's a neat little touch.

Hello DaRonRon,

Sorry, but no. It's for the pop-up preview window when you hover the mouse pointer over a pinned taskbar icon instead. :)

It must be one of those effects, try them out...

Disabling all the visual themes is the same as using the Basic theme, it disables the Aero effect thus rendering the taskbar thumbnails inactive. Taskbar thumbnails cannot be disabled while using any Aero effect.

Hello DaRonRon,

Disabling all of those options will basically have you running in the Windows Classic theme. The specific visual effect would be the Enable desktop composition option.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

then you cannot have multiple windows at the same time.

Yea you can. If you set it to a really high number you have to click on the taskbar item to bring up the multiple windows instead of hovering.

Isn't that what you want, since you still want to us multiple windows but not have the previews show up at first?

well, you can disable the preview when you hover over the taskbar button, but i really dont like the preview if i have to select between two windows of the same type.

its not horrible, its just that i liked the old list type better.

/edit by now i've got used to the new taskbar thumbnail, its not that bad after all.
i disabled the preview, and navigating thru different tabs is alright.
