What is a good, reliable registry cleaner?

Great advice.. Revo is easy (free) and thorough, i just started using windows 7 and am happy to hear that the registry is handling itself Windows 7 at all seems like it can be stripped a bit, but its a refreshingly good experience with windows OS. Works good with all the implemented stuff too, though i would refer from using some of it. They abit flashy so to speak

for me i use ccleaner i have it run at startup and it cleans the temp files...ect... and i have auslogics diskdefrag to auto defrag and once a month i use the reg cleaner part of ccleaner and Auslogics registary defrag and my system runs smooth.

i found a good program that i see alot of people on youtube etc use, its free AND AFTER i rasn ccleaner it found 210 mb more junk!!! and they have a good reg cleaner found a ton of stuff, its really good,

Well... I really don't know why some people says that registry cleaners are tricky or bad... I've used that kind of software since more or less 5 years, and XP was perfect... and now in 7 works great.

I reccommnd the combination of CCleaner and Tuneup Utilities, sometimes CCleaner detects errors that Tuneup don't, and you can use the registry defrag, I used it many times and I get no problems, but faster boot times (over 1 or 2 secs, not THAT much BTW).

Use the latest CCleaner and Tune Up 2010, they are the perfect combination.

I use CCleaner but not every often. Stick with the advice of most of the people here don't fix something that is not broken. If everything is running fine leave the registry alone. But if you think there is a problem CCleaner is pretty good at not messing up your computer. But before you click the button to just clean everything READ what its deleting.

Although CCleaner works good a way to keep your registry from getting mucked up is using a virtual machine or sandboxie to test new software or software you might only use once.

Have you ever seen the registry get corrupted and bring down a system, other than malware? Neither have I.

The only time I see registry related problems is when someone has run a registry cleaner or optimizer on it.

spot on - if it ain't broke, keep fixing it till it is.

Many years ago, when I first started out with computers, I actually fell for one of these 'clean out the junk files from the registry' bits of nonsense. After 'cleaning' I restarted and the **** wouldn't boot. Had to take it to a repair shop to re-install Windows.

I'd give my vote to Tune Up utilities.

I've seen that program cause way too many BSODs to back you up there.

Agreed. It trashed my last Vista system so bad I had to buy Win 7 to cheer myself up.

I now have a "no tune up" policy.

I also have a "no tune up" policy. The only tools I use are Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter, and Revo (only when a program cannot be uninstalled through normal means)
