As long as it's bootable via the BIOS, yes, it should work.

Hello bcltoys, welcome to Seven Forums!

As has been said, as long as the DVD player can be recognized by the PC Basic Input/Output System or the BIOS and the DVD of Windows 7 is bootable you should have no problems, insert the DVD into the DVD drive and restart the PC, then in the BIOS select the DVD drive as the first boot device, have a look at the tutorial at the link below.

Here's a good one to have as a tool anyway and you can boot this one and when done with the experiment just hit the "Escape" button on the keyboard to close the program and start Windows.

Download and save the Memtest ISO file to the desktop, then burn to a CD using ImgBurn, only do the burn at 4x with a verify; it was created and runs best from a CD and then just boot the finished Memtest86+ CD to find out.

One way to get past any limitation there if the board suppports booting from usb devices would be to grab a 4gb usb flash drive and follow the guide on creating a usb install key. USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

There's a second option to consider as well for seeing a bootable ISO disk image created and running it from a virtual optical drive or an alternate method for creating a bootable flash drive install key. Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

Typically these are options for netbook users where no optical drive is present but works well for desktops/laptops too. You can also use the repair tools by simply booting from the flash drive used to see less handling of the original dvd. :D
