then what else could be the problem? we really need a trend here.. i notice sometimes it would go berserk and drop my connection every 30secs, other times it may be mercy to me and allow 20-30mins.. but most importantly the dropping occurs more often when i am actually browsing the internet..

probably.. since it's using less resources, it's probably too comfortable and decided to take a nap.

Similar problem here, too. It is more random than "every 15-20 minutes," and (perhaps I'm just lucky) never has occurred during a download. Rather, it seems to occur--quite randomly--when I am loading a new page (indeed, it happened when I went from page 4 to page 5 of this thread). I just get the spinning "load" button and nothing happens. The taskbar indicator to the right says everything is still connected, but none of the browsers will actually connect to the internet.

It started happening in build 7068 (or perhaps I just don't remember back to build 7000), and continues in RC. My computer is connected by a "wired" connector to my wireless router, so it is using the motherboard's LAN rather than a wireless card.

I know I'm not helping anyone solve this--but I wanted to add another "me to" to the list of what seems to be a widespread, and serious, problem.

URTHJ, thanks for sharing your problem.. the bottom taskbar is a little slow and i notice that as well.

i must add sometimes it happens very randomly, sometimes it just happens every 1-2min, ocassionally it would let you be happy for few hours.. sometimes i even think its fix and then it hit me again.. it's as if like it's toying me..

It would appear that at least the top seven or more threads in this forum are basically addressing the same problem which really says that this is a major issue affecting a lot of users.

My problem seems to be resolved. I have not lost connection for almost 48 hours now. The only change I made was to delete my Linksys wireless N and all its software. On restart I let windows reinstall the device. The windows installed driver shows it as a Broadcom wireless N. This driver seems to be stable.

This leads me to believe that we are dealing with driver issues. Two separate threads are advocating changing power management in device properties, clearing the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". My wireless device does not have this tab nor, I think do many other pci wireless devices.

Another thread shows a registry hack to accomplish the same. No one has as far as I can tell reported back saying whether or no these changes resolve the issue.

I think this issue is broad based, confusing, and needs consolidation of multiple threads if we are to find any definitive answer. I can only hope that someone from Microsoft is listening.

i have also believed that its a driver issue, but everytime after i uninstalled the current driver and install a new one. my system wouldn't even detect my network adapter. It didn't gave me an option to install another driver.. On top of that, mine is a ethernet so didn't come with any software.

it's good to hear someone experinencing something positive.

ok... Gene is on the track, may be the right one for him, but it IS THE track to be on. I tinkered around with the drivers here as well. For my situation, i dont have a 7 signed driver yet for this adapter, so i have had to resort to a vista driver. So i knew where my possible "leaks in the boat" probably were/are. I said i didnt have this problem in the beta. Well i gave it some more thought how i installed the driver then, and what options were available. In 7000, the options were XP, XP SP1 and 2, Server 2003, Vista, Vista SP1, no SP2 or XP SP3 as well. In 7000 i chose the bland "Vista". I did the same with 7100 initially. I have now since deleted that driver install and reinstalled using SP2, and up until 10 mins ago, i had about a 15 hour constant stressed connection. Stressed defined as constant(90% of the time) load on the network, maxing out WAN side, up and down. Now 10 mins ago, i just came on this site and browsed a little, and went to submit and had a blank, looked down and yep, just lost connection. So i was going to come in here holding two tablets preaching on mt. connection high, but all i have to offer up is what seemed to be a noticeable improvement and a possible idea to try.

That sounds like it holds promise. I have seen it suggested a couple of times but no one has reported back. It is not an option for my wireless card and I am in "don't rock the boat" mode .

yea, thats all done... part of the "first stuff i do" after install and first logon... configure power settings/profile and all the rest of the goody stuff... it just seems that using vista and sp2 is a difference in my situation. this driver wasnt even wrote for sp2, but thats the "trick", atleast to get it to perform better than under regular vista comp.

Just as a thought I found that when my network adapter was getting to a particular amount of packets received then it would fail is anyone else noticing this? I would get to about 2,---,---,--- packets and it would fail. My media sits on the network and the wmp libraries were chewing that amount of data in the first 10 mins then it would fail.

i'm afraid to be optimistc, but yesterday i changed my network security as public and since then till now no disconnections.
does it solved the problem? don't know, but try it

Are microsoft even trying to fix this issue? Its the only issue I have otherwise its been really good.

like what most people have discuss before, but i am having trouble when it's actually ethernet cable... My connection drops on average about 15mins, with torrent, skype, and msn running. it's really annoying to have to troubleshoot every 15-20mins!!.. anyone found a solution to this??

I try searching the forum, but everyone else is complaining about wireless instead of ethernet..

I think this was already suggested.
open device manager, find your NIC adapter, make sure you "UNCLICK"
ALLOW THIS COMPUTER TO SHUTDOWN THIS DEVICE TO DAVE POWER.

My connection is wired, not wireless. And I've unchecked the box about allowing the computer to shut down the LAN connector to save power; no difference. I still get (very) random situations where my internet, in the middle of a session, can't connect to everything, even though the network still shows internet connection, unless and until I reboot. (To my knowledge, this has never happened unless I'm in the middle of an internet session--i.e., with the computer on but no browser open, I've never failed to initially connect to the internet when opening a browser). The LAN is a Realtek 811C built-in to my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H), and is using Realtek drivers loaded by Windows 7, not by me. This problem seems to have persisted through several builds, and seems to be wide-spread. I'm assuming Microsoft is aware of it, but am a bit troubled by a problem that began to occur at least back in build 7068 is still there--in fairly widespread fasion--in the RC.

LAN: Realtek TTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet (motherboard)

Hard Drives: (1) Samsung HD753LJ SATA (750 GB) [the one Windows 7 is on]

Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio (ACL889A codec) [motherboard]

And the drivers are basically those loaded by Windows 7--which worked amazingly flawlessly, except (a) for this internet disconnect problem and (2) loading HPs scanning software (which I've worked around by using Windows Fax and Scan and the "printing" to PrimoPDF--giving me access to the ability to scan to .pdf files).

Same problem for me, build 7100 x64. Marvel Yukon 88E8056 ethernet adapter. Sometimes disabling and re-enabling the adapter works but most times I have to reboot to fix. Problem has been present in the last few builds of x64 that I've tried.

i notice alot of you have to actually reboot in order to fix the problem, what i am experiencing is not needing me to reboot.. all i have to do is just troubleshoot and wait a about 30sesc and it would be fixed.
