Hello,

When I leave my computer unattended, after a while, the desktop icons and the menu bar disappears, leaving only the background visible with the Windows Icon. If left unattended longer, it turns black with only the mouse cursor visible. In this case, I have no choice but to make a cold restart by pressing the power button in the tower.

Can someone assist me in solving this issue?

Scan with antivirus
Download and scan with malwarebytes. Make the long 90 minute scan and update before using
If this is negative go to device manager, look for yellow warning markers and make sure that you have the most current firmware for graphics card and that graphics driver is up to date.

I updated NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT yesterday which seem to have solved another that I had before (occasional freezing)

I partially-scanned (that is my computer was left unattended long enough for the black screen with only the mouse arrow visible) my computer yesterday with Kaspersky and it found 3 trojans that were eliminated.

After 4 hours, Malwarebytes detected nothing. Here's the log:

Trojans have a way to hide, they may not truly be eliminated. I would stop by the security forum, and tell them the situation. If they say you are clean, come back and I will show you how to test memory.
