Adobe previews 64-bit Flash Player 'Square'

Shows the 10.1 and I'm running IE9 beta x64. Not sure why it doesn't us the new Flash?

OK, got it sorted now. I was launching IE from my pinned icon. It was the 32 bit version. Unpinned and launched 64 bit IE and Flash now shows version 10.2. Working great.

AHA! .... that was my mistake. I unpinned the 32 bit, pinned the 64bit...install went good. I just assumed the 64bit version was the one already pinned.

I wonder if the 64bit version has the same security problem as the 32bit version. After they fix the 32bit bit version in a couple weeks I wonder if they will have a new 64bit version?

A 64 bit version of flash player? That's awesome, but I use Firefox 32 bit anyway. It doesn't really affect me but it's awesome that they finally got around to it.

Now, if only Mozilla would hurry up with a 64bit version of Firefox (not that the 32 bit version is that bad in a x64 OS).

Firefox likes to think it is. (I know, that's not the same thing.)

I use Firefox almost exclusively, only switching over to IE in the rare case that something flat out won't work right with Firefox. I use an Add-On called "IE View" which wanted to always use the 64-Bit version of IE until I forced it to use the 32-Bit version.

If I open that window in IE 9 32 bit and 64 bit they both say the same thing. They both say Internet Explorer is the default web browser. The only difference is in IE 9 64 bit it states that "Internet Explorer (64 bit) cannot be the default browser". Open IE 9 32 bit and have a look, they both can't be the default browser? As a test close IE and click the link to this post in the e-mail notification you get and tell me which version of IE 9 opens.

That's what I like about FF x64. It can be made to be the default and will open in such a scenario as I (and Alphanumeric) just presented.

As of this moment, one cannot make IE9 x64 the default browser. That may change with the final release once Flash gets it's square preview out of beta.

64 bit might be ok, because the advisory mentions 10.1.xxxx versions, and the 64 bit flash is 10.2.xxxx. I didn't see any 10.2 versions mentioned in the advisory.

Ya, thats what I'm thinking. I was hoping somebody might have found a way around that restriction though. There is no 64 bit version of Silverlight either, not that it matters a whole lot, but Microsoft might make us wait for that before unlocking IE 9 64 for full time use.

No but there is a 32 bit version of Adobe square flash that you can use with IE 9 32 bit. Adobe Labs - Downloads: Flash Player "Square" Preview Release
