Laptop Operates Like There Is No Battery In It

Lately my hard drive damaged and I had to get a new hard drive and it came with 32 Bit Windows Ultimate. When I got back my laptop, i had it running on outlet power all the time (approx 1 1/2 hours) when i decided to pull out the plug and take my laptop in my room. When i plugged out the cord the laptop cut off instantly and i tried turning it on when the plug is unplugged and there is no power to it as if it does not have a battery in it. I never experienced this problem when i was running windows XP. I need a solution for this really bad, please help me out. Thanks in advance!

It may be the battery is bad. That happened to one of my notebooks. And it was not cost effective for my model to replace it. I don't suppose you know anyone with an identical notebook to test their battery?

I would say the battery is bad and you should see how much a replacement one is.

Changing the hard drive is so simple, and practically an external operation on a notebook. Anything is possible, but I doubt replacing the hd dislodged plugs or wires.

What type of laptop is it? If it's an HP, they have a battery recall program that addresses the symptom you are having.

No offense, Lemur, but that largely depends on the type of Laptop in question (which unfortunately hasn't been mentioned) If it's the kind where you just "pop in" the Hdd in a bay slot I would tend to agree...it's very unlikely to damage the battery cable that way. But if it's the type you have to take apart...that's a whole different story...esp. if you're not a tech person...just covering all bases.
I've seen people doing the darndest things when all they wanted was just to replace a case fan or something similar simple.
