Here's the text I excerpted to show what fixed mine:

Why does Windows Explorer crash upon right click in the left pane?
In Windows Explorer, the moment I right click on any folder Windows Explorer crashes: "Windows Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have run System File Checker. Nothing.
I have used MSCONFIG to disable everything except Windows components. It still occurs.
Any thoughts? I work around it by using the File menu or working in the right pane, but it is maddening. Had no such problems with XP.
Thanks.
Solution:
The ShellExView utility displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer, and allows
you to easily disable and enable each shell extension.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. It's taken me awhile to be able to clear a day to work on this -- it's taken 2 in all.
In reference to your included list...deciphering the CBS log proved impossible as my entries didn't seem to match the referenced site, but it says it repairs something.
On the 2nd section...the Right Click Slow article didn't have the same symptoms I had.
The "Manage the context-menu entries..." article gave me an error and wouldn't display.
ShellExView is wonderful! I started disabling anything non-Microsoft and it fixed the problem. Now I just have to figure out which one is the guilty party.
Also downloaded FileMenuTools (
LopeSoft) and found it to be great for removing the entries (found in your How To Edit... link) without digging through the registry.
Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the help. At least it works again!
Taking it a step farther:
I used ShellExView to fix this also. I did take it a step farther (you might have too) to find the culprit. I can't even believe - it was my good old trusty SpyBot! Here is the file:
- Spybot-S&D Explorer Integration
- Context Menu
- Windows Explorer context menu integration
- 2.3.39.113
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy 2\SDECon64.dll
- {44176360-2BBF-4EC1-93CE-384B8681A0BC}
I disabled it and now, it doesn't do it at all.
Hope this helps someone else.
