Windows explorer lag driving me insane

PROBLEM SOLVED

Thank you very much to IgorNg and cerveaupro. I had disabled KIS2010 and it had made no difference but uninstalling it has returned Explorer to normal (instant) speeds, and reduced Word and Outlook editing to 1-5% CPU utlisation from the 50% utilisation with KIS installed. No, i cannot explain the last phenomenom (what has KIS got to do with editing documents?). I am delighted to have solved this problem but annoyed that i had got the full version of KIS2010 and will now have to spend a load more money to get a good quality alternative.

Thanks also to Mrsdoyle for her (am assuming a her!) continued interest in helping me. You are all brilliant!

As a quick addendum to this: Having ID'ed Kaspersky as the cause of the problem i have found a potential solution on the Kaspersky forums:

"Temporarily disable Self Defense. Disconnect from the internet, then Settings > Options > disable Self Defense > ok. Use Windows Explorer for a few minutes, then re -enable Self Defense >ok."

According to others with this problem, it appears to work although for how long i dont know...

The problem did come back (I think gradually) on my machine. I just tried your solution and it works :)
Thanks!
