Hope I am posting in right forum. Is it possible to use partition magic 8.05 with windows 7 ultimate? I want to partition my drive, I did not do it at the time of installing windows.
Thanks in advance to your reply.

Excuse my ignorance, but boot cd.... are you talking of windows 7 cd itself? I will search for partition wizard mini tool cd.
Thanks for your quick reply.

Can you click on links? Why do you have to search for the minitool, that where the first link in my earlier post will take you. The boot cd means PW boot cd, not win7 cd. Everything you need is contained in those 2 links.

Should this be taking this long to accomplish? The size of the HHD is 300 gigs with in my laptop righ now I have a black screen for over 40 minutes that just say:
Resize partition
Partition Letter: C:
Partition Label:
Disk Index: 1
Partition Index:2
New Partition Satrarting LBA: 206848
New Partition Size: 81847 MB

It has been this way for over 40 minutes now. Is this normal? I also don't see any HHD activities.

Thanks

Depends how much data is being moved - normally it will tell you it is moving data - deosn't seem to be saying that .

It may just be jammed.

Stopping it might be dangerous - depending what it has done - if anything.

There is something wrong then.

Is it asking anything ?

It may just be waiting for you to confirm.

If you only have this:

Resize partition
Partition Letter: C:
Partition Label:
Disk Index: 1
Partition Index:2
New Partition Satrarting LBA: 206848
New Partition Size: 81847 MB

Better leave it a while.

No, I don't have a back up image all I have is the backup disk windows ask for every so often. I don't have a lot things on this computer, windows installation was just about 4 weeks ago. If I stop it what should I do. I konow I may have to reinstall windows. I will probably have to straighten out the drive also before reinstall.
Thanks SIW2 for your help with this.

Just reporting back to say everything is ok. I stopped the process and rebooted with the cd and it showed only drive c was worked on so with the unlocated space I created my other drives and now everything is fine. Windows booted and no files lost. Thanks to you guys for your help. I am really getting into this windows 7 thing.

Lucky escape.

Thanks for the feedback.

Best thing is to make a backup image once a week or so.

If anything goes seriously wrong - put the image back on.
